Pittman commits to Gamecocks

South Carolina continued its fast start to the 2015 recruiting cycle when four-star outside linebacker Sherrod Pittman (Jacksonville, Fla./First Coast) committed to the Gamecocks on local Jacksonville television Monday evening.

Class of 2015 four-star OLB Sherrod Pittman committed to South Carolina Monday.

Pittman, who is ranked the No. 9 outside linebacker in his class, chose the Gamecocks over offers from Florida, Arkansas, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, LSU, Miami, Ohio State, Tennessee and Wisconsin, among many others.

Pittman was recruited to the Gamecocks by recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach Steve Spurrier Jr.

"He's cool and he's fun to hang around," Pittman said in a previous interview. "I can talk to Steve Spurrier Jr. about anything. He's always smiling and he's just a real cool person to be around."

South Carolina landed linebacker Shaq Wilson out of First Coast in 2008 and Wilson is now in his first year as the Gamecocks' defensive graduate assistant after completing his eligibility last season. Wilson's presence also helped the Gamecocks in their pursuit of Pittman, who visited the South Carolina campus for camp last month.

"Me and Shaq have a good chemistry and I really like him a lot," Pittman said in the previous interview. "He said it's a real great school with real good tradition. He said it's a fun school to be around. He said the school will definitely help me get better."

Pittman is the Gamecocks' fifth commitment in the 2015 class joining Shameik Blackshear, Arden Key, Chauncey Rivers and Dexter Neal on the commitment list.

247Sports ranks Pittman as the No. 146 overall prospect in his class and the No. 19 prospect in Florida. In the industry-generated 247Composite, Pittman is ranked the No. 10 OLB, the No. 21 prospect in Florida and the No. 158 overall prospect in his class, with a rating of .9386.
