South Carolina picked up its second commitment of the 2014 basketball class on Sunday evening when three-star wing TeMarcus Blanton (Locust Grove, Ga./Luella) committed to Frank Martin. The 6-foot-5, 190-pound prospect choose the Gamecocks over George Mason, Auburn, Arkansas and Florida State among other.
"We were at dinner and once I told them, their faces just brightened up," Blanton told TheBigSpur.com on Sunday night. "It was kind of wild, they were real happy. Coach Martin's wife was there and that was the first time she saw a player commit to her husband and she was really excited."
Blanton took his official visit to Columbia over the weekend and had the opportunity to spend time with the coaches while seeing the atmosphere at the Gamecocks football game versus North Carolina. All were in factors in helping him make his decision.
"It was great," Blanton said. "I had never been to a football game that live before. They are building new buildings on campus and everything was just real nice. "
The rising senior was expected to take visits to Auburn and George Mason in the coming weeks but says that his recruitment has now come to a close.
"I am committed to South Carolina," Blanton said. "That is where I want to be. They can help me improve and reach my full potential. The coaches are are great, Coach Martin is great. I am not taking any other visits, I am looking forward to being a Gamecock next year."
Blanton joins point guard Marcus Stroman (Columbia/Keenan) in the 2014 recruiting class.
