Redshirt freshman Tanner McEvoy was arrested in Mecklenburg County, N.C. on Sunday night for driving after consuming. Per South Carolina athletic department policy, he is suspended from all team activities.
In North Carolina, it is illegal for a driver under 21 years of age to have any amount of alcohol in his or her bloodstream while operating a motor vehicle. The charge is a Class II misdemeanor.
McEvoy redshirted his first year on campus after enrolling as a three-star prospect from Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, N.J. He threw for 2,264 yards and 32 touchdowns as a senior and also rushed for 1,196 yards with 14 scores. He was the state’s offensive player of the year in his first year at quarterback after spending the rest of his high school career at wide receiver.
McEvoy was listed as the four-string quarterback on preseason depth chart released by the university.
