South Carolina returned to winning form with a 38-35 victory over Tennessee on Saturday afternoon at Williams-Brice Stadium. With the win, the Gamecocks jumped six in the AP Poll and are currently ranked No. 11 nationally.
Six teams ranked ahead of the Gamecocks (7-2, 5-2) in last week’s poll lost their games, which enabled to make a slight jump. Head coach Steve Spurrier’s squad was ranked No. 13 in the latest BCS rankings, which will be updated tonight at 8:30 p.m. South Carolina is also ranked No. 11 in the USA Today/Coaches' Poll.
With its victory over No. 11 Mississippi State on Saturday night, top-ranked Alabama held on to its No. 1 spot in the poll. The Crimson Tide garnered 59 of the 60 first-place votes last week but now they’re a unanimous top selection.
Florida lost to Georgia in their annual game in Jacksonville, Fla. 17-9 on Saturday afternoon and lost it’s No. 2 ranking. The Gators dropped to No. 8 while Georgia jumped five spots to No. 7 in the AP Poll.
Mississippi State stayed in the top 25 but fell to No. 17 with its loss to Alabama. With it’s smack down victory of Auburn, SEC newcomer Texas A&M moved up in the rankings to No. 16
LSU, which had a bye this week, moved up a spot in the polls to No. 5 with Florida falling.
