Gamecocks climb in rankings

With its 27-17 victory over Clemson, the fourth straight in the rivalry, South Carolina jumped two spots to No. 11 in the latest rankings. For the 45th straight week, the Gamecocks (10-2) are ranked in the AP Top 25.

Steve Spurrier notched his 65th victory as head coach of the Gamecocks on Saturday night, which broke Rex Enright’s record. He said following the game that it was a game ball he’d keep as it was a little bit more special coming against the Tigers (10-2).

The Gamecocks will have the week off and will, watch the SEC Championship Game on Saturday between Alabama and Georgia, and wait on its bowl destination. What we know is that with their victories over their rivals this weekend, the winner of the Crimson Tide and Bulldogs will play for the national championship against Notre Dame.

Alabama capped its season with a resounding 49-0 victory over Auburn while Georgia smacked Georgia Tech around Sanford Stadium to the tune of 42-10. The Crimson Tide finished No. 2 and Bulldogs No. 3 in the final AP poll of the regular season.

Florida finished at No. 5, a spot behind probation-riddled Ohio State, after a 37-26 victory over Florida State. The Gators are projected to finish No. 4 in the BCS standings, which assures them of a spot in the Sugar Bowl.

LSU comes in at No. 9 in the poll with its closer-than-expected, 20-3 victory over Arkansas on Friday afternoon. Texas A&M actually drops a spot to No. 10 in the rankings, despite its 59-29 victory over Missouri. Mississippi, again, dropped from the polls after suffering an Egg Bowl loss to Ole Miss.

South Carolina is ranked No. 10 in the USA Today/Coaches' poll, which was also good for a two-spot jump.

Spurrier will speak to the media today at 2 p.m. on his weekly teleconference.
