    • We got out rebounded and out scored from the FT line, but still won. That is a little bit of a surprise.

    • fogler stated his view that jackson is our best post option. his free throw shooting does not help that, but he does seem able to use either hand, which makes him hard to defend around the hoop. but if he is matched up against a longer taller defender on the post he becomes way less effective. but if you can get somebody in 6'6" range defending i think lakeem can do real damage. if only he could shoot a lick. flat out the worst free throw shooter i have ever seen. that form he had today was out of ymca hoops between lawyers and accountants

Lakeem has a quickness advantage over anyone of any size. I think he can score underneath no matter who is guarding him, short of Anthony Davis. The dude is an elite athlete, who just happens to have crude fine motor skills in his hands. His rebounding and defense make up for his FT shooting, up to a point at the end of games. He is also a passing machine. He's our best player. A swiss army knife.

    • I think you folks should get used to the fact that we are going to get killed. We have NOTHING inside. Jackson can not score on "anybody" either. That was a 2-7 team from the Southern Conference who almost beat us at home and they killed us inside. It's going to get very ugly for us in conference play. We're just going to have to grin and bear it. We sure do need to sign some more post players.

It sure is great to have Eddie Fogler calling our games. Each one is like a coaching clinic.

you admire fogler but then dispute his view about jackson as our best post player on offense?

jackson is a full grown man, not a timid recent hs grad. he is quite physical enough to score on men his size no matter what team they play against. but his free throw shooting is so atrocious it makes corpses cringe

i, by the way, was not commenting on the overall quality of the team

from looking at martin i saw resigned shock in many cases at what he was watching. but, truth is, he has no options as many of the players continue to make extraordinarily awful decisions, make lazy passes, lack focus intensity & too often hoops talent in areas

until he gets better players we are going to struggle mightily against better competion. i dont see the consistency from the offensive players they need to win, nor do they have the size to deal with the superior teams. will be ugly at times. some surprises, cause with ellington, when he is acclimated to hoops, he can handle the ball better, make better decisions & score more on drives. he has the physical tools to do what he wants but you dont turn that on & off like a light switch. so, with him we could be competitive, but by the time he gets his hoops bearings it may be too late to salvage the season

I don't get the impression that Coach Martin thinks the team is as bad as you think it is. From watching the scores and what is happening with some of the other SEC teams, I think we are better than some of them.

I do agree with you about Coach Fogler. I love to listen to him call our games.

      Jelsik Sturm

    • Yes this team will struggle this year, and will have to scrape and scratch for every thing they get due to an overall lack of talent. But, I do see improvement in the continuity of the half court offense, and they at least look like a basketball team this year. Wouldn't be surprised if we somehow win 15 or so games, and perhaps even make it to .500 for the season. But then again, ......wouldn't be surprised if we don't either.

Better times are ahead, just probably not yet.

Where did I dispute Fogler's view anywhere? When you read what do you see?

I dispute Steve Miller's statement that Jackson can score on anyone. Jackson is very limited in his offensive package and besides that, why would any team allow him a shot at the basket when they could simply foul him to put him on the line for an automatic turnover? Listen, I like Lakeem. He gives 100% of what he's got but he ain't got much offense. Right now we have two pretty decent ballplayers - Williams and Kacinas. The rest of our guys just aren't getting it at all - not even Ellington. Every time Ellington comes into the game we stop moving without the ball because all he wants to do is dribble. I thought he was changing but he stunk it up the other night. B Rich also took some terrible shots. And where is Damien Leonard? Are we so good that we can't get him into the ball game? Chatkevecious has center blocks for feet and is so easy to fake that the other team is feasting on him. I was thinking Slawson was going to come out and show everybody what he can do but apparently he just isn't panning out like I thought he could. Carrera is way out of control. His mind can't keep up with his motor, but I think he will develop. Eric Smith is doing a few nice things and is out playing and out hustling Ellington.

But we have nothing to stop SEC teams from beating down our hoop time after time. It is going to be ugly. We don't seem to want to play any zone defense either. I'd rather at least try to shut down the middle and get beat by a rain of 3's than to suffer through one building shattering demoralizing earthquake dunk after another but that's what it looks like is headed our way. I'd almost rather watch reruns of the election than see us play Kentucky.

i do think jackson can score around the hoop

yes, teams can foul him automatically but if they do then after three or four times down court the player guarding jackson could have 3 fouls. no team wants to foul out a starter, even if it puts jackson on the line

fogler said he can be very effective around the hoop. it is short game, 3 foot & in, the guy uses both hands, he is actually pretty athletic & can score

from more than 10 feet out he is a liability, imho & as said, the single worst foul shooter i have ever seen, even at the ymca. but in the proper set he can get the ball down low & horse his defender close enough to score consistently. he wont make any free throws, however. i might hire a hypnotist

      Aaron Burr Cock

    • I'd love to see Lakeem attempt 15+ free throws each game. He would make at least a few and if he was shooting that many, he would become more comfortable shooting them. His problem is mental. They say he makes FT in practice. Anyway, if he was attempting lots of FT it would mean the other team would be in foul trouble and we would get in the bonus sooner. All good.
