South Carolina secured its ninth commitment of the 2015 class on Monday afternoon when left-handed pitcher Logan Allen (Fletcher, N.C./IMG Academy) made his pledge. The Gamecocks now have a big, powerful left-handed pitcher who has shined in big games.
Allen chose South Carolina over offers from Florida, Miami, North Carolina, N.C. State, Clemson and a host of other schools. Even though he took several trips, the southpaw has known for a while that Columbia was going to be his future home.
In addition to the coaches, campus and facilities, the allure of playing with several of his current EvoShield Canes teammates provided an added attraction. Four of his current showcase teammates will be in the same dugout at the next level, including shortstop LT Tolbert, outfielder Danny Blair, and pitchers Kaleb Bowman and Cody Morris.
Allen was invited to San Diego, Calif. recently to participate in the Perfect Game Underclass All-American game. On the mound, he’s been clocked as high as 89 mph in a Perfect Game event but he can hit some 90 mph marks as well.
In addition to his power fastball at a young age, Allen also throws a breaking ball and a changeup.
Allen is the ninth member of the 2015 class and is the second left-handed pitcher joining Kyle Anderson (Evans, Ga./Evans). There are five pitchers in the class, including Morris, Bowman, Anderson and right-hander Harrison Smith (Wando/Wando).
