Columbia, SC - South Carolina and Georgia are getting set to do battle on the basketball court in a pivotal SEC match up in Columbia. The Gamecocks (12-8, 2-5) are looking to bounce back from Wednesday night's loss to Florida.

Georgia out to a 9-7 lead. They get the Gamecocks on a back door lob to get the two point advantage.
Ellington with three and Carrera with four early points. Carrera battling hard, he is at a bit of a disadvantage today against the taller Bulldogs but we know how hard he will battle down low so I expect him to create problems.

We slide under the 12 minute mark, Bulldogs still holding on to a one point lead, 13-12 with 11:57 to go in the half.
Carrera being extremely active early on, especially on the defensive end.
Gamecocks getting some decent looks on offense, they have to keep working.

The junior day recruits just walked into the building, just on the eye ball test, Terry Googer is a good sized kid for his age.
As for the basketball game, Georgia goes into a 2-3 zone and it throws the Gamecocks off a little. Eric Smith launches an air ball with the shot clock winding down.
17-16 Bulldogs with 7:57 remaining in the half.

Gamecocks go on a little run here, Carrera the catalyst as he is playing extremely well today. Has 11 points with 6:22 to go in the half, he just hit a three pointer and I thik did some sort of Spiderman celebration afterward.
Bruce Ellington trying to guard Caldwell-Pope right now and Caldwell-Pope has about six inches on him. He rose up a few minutes ago and buried a three over top of him. Ellington having to use his speed to negate the height advantage of Caldwell-Pope who has 10 points already.
Caldwell-Pope gets loose on a backdoor cut and is fouled, he now has 14 points on the day.
Carrera battling hard down low. He grabs another rebound and gets the put back, Carrera with 13.
We are all tied with 3:47 to go, 25-25

Two observations: Carerra is doing a good job stepping into passing lanes.
The announcer has no idea that Carrera is a good jump shooter. Keeps saying "that's not his game", talking about jump shots. I think that's the second best part of his game, rebounding being the best.

Halftime, the Gamecocks have taken a one point lead 30-29 behind the play of Michael Carrera who has 15 points.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has 16 points for the Bulldogs.

That Caldwell-Pope is extremely impressive and is probably the best player I've seen play against us this year. He is a first round NBA talent.
