Knott commits to Carolina

South Carolina picked up its second commitment in as many days when offensive lineman Alan Knott (Tyrone, Ga./Sandy Creek) pledged to become a Gamecock.

"Yes, sir! I committed to South Carolina," said Knott. "This is a great feeling."

The 6-foot-4, 265-pounder informed Gamecocks' offensive line coach Shawn Elliott of his decision on Sunday night.

"I called Coach Elliott to tell him the news. He was very excited. I'd say he was as excited as I was when I made the call. That was really cool."

When asked why he chose South Carolina, Knott didn't hesitate.

"I've always wanted to play in the SEC. I really like Coach Elliott, the fans, and the school itself. In the end, South Carolina is where I felt the most comfortable."

Knott is the 17th commitment in the Gamecocks' 2013 class.

He's the fourth offensive line commitment, joining the Dillon (S.C.) duo of offensive tackle D.J. Park and center Bryce King as well as Kingsland (Ga.) Camden County offensive tackle J.P. Vonashek, who committed to South Carolina on Saturday.

Knott is the No. 58 recruit in Georgia and is the No. 27 Offensive Guard in the nation.

The Sandy Creek standout chose South Carolina over offers from North Carolina, Miami, Virginia Tech, Louisville, South Florida, and Syracuse among others.

He has a 247Sports rating of 87, making him a 3-star prospect.

    • Understand that I could care less about ESPN rankings but while watching ESPNU the past two days I have noticed they have both of our last two OL commits rated 4*s.

Just nice to see scrolling across the bottom screen. Trust 247s rankings just really nice to see big pickups come across screen for everyone to see

No offense to 247 or ESPN, but these analyst don't lose their jobs if they make mistakes. Coach Elliot and others do. I trust their evaluations., Especially Coach Elliot, because he really puts an emphasis on attitude. A big strong tough athlete with a piss poor attitude or sucky grades ain't gonna get it now matter how many stars they have.

Meat was just as highly rated and just as talented as Lattimore, but I know which one I would rather have.

Analyst do a great job, but they have to evaluate tons of athletes and don't spend as much time on the intangibles. Our coaches narrow it down and get a lot more in depth information on the kids.

Yep - any kid that Elliott has evaluated in camp and then offered is fine by me. No reason to doubt the guy until he gives us a reason to - so far he hasn't. And even if he makes a mistake then he has a war chest of credibility to dip into...IMHO

    • Great news but does this mean the big guys (Crowder and Rodgers) aren't coming or are we really going to sign 6 OL. Don't we have other positions of need?
