Could Kelvin Rainey play next season at linebacker?

South Carolina's lack of depth at linebacker is one of next season's biggest question marks. But could be answer already reside in Columbia?

Great to hear he is open to the move and the challenge since one of the big reasons he came here was the chance to play offense.

I've always like Kelvin and was so happy when he committed to USC. It doesn't surprise me he's okay with the idea of moving to LB and doing whatever he can to support the team.

A little weird that the offensive coaches seem resistant to the idea. Kind of hard to get Rainey (or anyone else on offense) the ball if we cannot stop anyone because we do not have any linebackers.

Maybe he just has alot of potential on that side of the ball...nothing wrong with a little reluctance. You know steve likes his toys, but the cupboard is hardly bare at TE.
The number one takeaway from this article is the young mans team-first mentality. Love to hear those kinds of things out of the players.
Could be a very profitable move for him in the long run.

I was thinking of him a little more at the Hback/fullback role coming up, perhaps "Dimarco-esque". He seems to have a build more along the liness of that position...
However, a move to him at LB (in the spring) and I would feel ok about our LB situation...

Don't know it for a fact, but it sounds and looks like to me that the coaches may be using some "Jedi" mind tricks with him as well. I think they are trying to make him feel very special and needed, but to me he is already on board. Like someone else said, you can really sense a "team" attitude not a "me" attitude.

Great attitude. I feel like guys like this are the reason that we're having more success now. It seems like the me first guys have been cleared out, and now this is a team of guys with one goal. Winning the SEC. Love it!

I think he would be great in that role too but I think a backup LB sees the field more. I think Owens could be our best blocking TE and could do it too. Also its amazing how our team took the next step when we got more character guys. Reading this interview and listening to Shaw and Thompson after the game these kids are all team first. SOSs first few teams these types were few and far between. Guys like C Mathews laid the foundation and this group the last three years have taken it to another level. When we arent pushing for a prospect ive got a pretty good feeling why.

He could always switch back to TE in the near future, it's not like he is locked in if he makes the switch this season.
Like the rest of you, I love the "team first" mentality our players have shown.

Actually, not having any linebackers would get the offense back on the field faster... Albeit 7 more points down as opposing teams cut through our defense like a knife through hot butter.

That's what I was thinking. Kaiwan is tall, and big as well. I don't know if Kaiwan is that big, though. Both of those guys are fast, also. I bet that we are actually better at LB next year than we were this year.
It is good to feel wanted, and appreciated. Right now, Kelvin is getting pulled on by the offensive, and the defensive coaches.

Not if they are bleeding us slowly with short gains, which is what I was picturing. If we had no corners, it might get the offense back on the field faster due to big plays down field. But I think we will be solid up front and in the back end (if Hampton is back), so what I worry about is a lot of short stuff in the passing game to offset our rush and alot of 5-10 yard runs with DBs having to make tackles.

I think the coaches on offense are talking about being able to play b/c we are losing Justice who was our best blocking TE and Rainey is supposedly a good blocker and could fit into that role. Not sure if Buster or Adams fit that role.
Either way I like the kid's attitude and his measurables are prime for that LB spot.
