Page commits to Carolina

Southern Mississippi transfer LaShay Page committed to South Carolina on Friday afternoon following an official visit to campus. Page has one year of eligibility remaining after spending three seasons at Hattisburgd, Miss. with the Golden Eagles.

Last season, Page averaged 11.6 points per game while knocking down 35 percent of his shots from behind the three point line. Originally from Dillion, the 6-foot-2 guard committed to Marshall out of high school but did not qualify academically. Page spent two seasons at Chipola Junior College in Florida before heading to Southern Mississippi.

Page joins Gamecock signees Thaddeus Hall, Tarik Phillip, Minda Kacinas and Laimonas Chatkevicius for the Gamecocks next season. South Carolina is still awaiting word on the qualifying status of Hall, who recently re-took the SAT and is awaiting word on his score.

Page will now have to file a waiver with the SEC in order to be eligible immediately due to the conference rule of not taking transfers with less than two years eligibility remaining. The rule was implemented last October but Page plans to file a hardship waiver as he has family close by and has personal reasons to be close to them.
