Park talks commitment

One day after South Carolina picked up one of their biggest commitments in the 2012 recruiting class, they added their first commitment in the 2013 class and it was a big one.

D.J. Park

Park committed to South Carolina on Saturday while on an unofficial visit.

Class of 2013 offensive lineman D.J. Park (Dillon/Dillon) visited South Carolina on Saturday and committed while on the visit.

“It is the place for me to be,” Park said. “It is not far from home. My mom and dad can come and see me play. I want to be here.”

South Carolina offensive line coach Shawn Elliott was the recruiter of record for Park. Park informed Elliott of the news.

“I told Coach Elliott that I wanted to commit,” Park said. “He was happy about it. He wanted to make sure that I was sure. He was happy, though.”

Park camped at South Carolina over the summer for the Gamecock Showcase camp and picked up the Gamecock offer then. He developed a good relationship with Park ever since.

“I just like the way Coach Elliott is,” Park said. “He is like all of the coaches at Dillon. That is what I like most about him.”

The 6-foot-5, 313-pounder picked the Gamecocks over offers from Auburn, Clemson, East Carolina, Florida, LSU, N.C. State, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest.

Park is a four-star prospect according to 247Sports and has a 90 rating.

“South Carolina is getting an offensive lineman that will adjust to the situation and will do what needs to be done,” Park said about himself.
