VIP Room: Will they be back?

Welcome to the VIP Room, a comprehensive report brought to you by the staff of TheBigSpur.com designed to take you behind the scenes of South Carolina athletics.

South Carolina Gamecocks

South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier noted on his Sunday teleconference that this is about the most banged up his team has been during his tenure. That might have been a bit of an overstatement from the Head Ball Coach, but we have updates on all of the injured Gamecocks that Spurrier has mentioned. There’s also a key player that Spurrier hasn’t mentioned that TheBigSpur.com has learned is injured. Find out who and his prognosis for next week’s game against Arkansas.

Who amongst the injured will be back?

Also from the football front, a true freshman was pulled over from the scout squad last week to work at a position of need. Find out who that player is and if his redshirt is going to be burned at this late stage of the season. Plus, one NFL scout talks to us about how he believes Marcus Lattimore should proceed from a draft standpoint.

The Gamecocks also hosted four-star quarterback Drew Barker (Hebron, Ky./Conner) over the weekend. We’ve detailed his visit, but get more behind the scenes info on the nation’s No. 3 dual threat quarterback. Just how strong is that love for Ohio State and are the Buckeyes a huge factor?

We also have the latest on South Carolina’s newest offer, wide receiver Braxton Berrios, and a 2013 wide receiver that has the Gamecocks’ interest. Get all of that and more recruiting scoop in this edition of the VIP Room.

Remember the Bruce Ellington saga last year? Will he play football, basketball, or both sports? Well, that discussion may start up again. Will Ellington be back on the football field? Get the scoop by clicking on the VIP Room link at the bottom of the page.

On the baseball front, student assistant coach Drew Meyer is departing. Will that role be filled in time for the season and, if so, who will get the job? What are LB Dantzler’s feelings about moving to first base and get the latest from the recruiting trail in this edition of the VIP Room.

In our “Other nuggets” section, find out about a special group of visitors and a special student-athlete that university president Harris Pastides hosted over the course of the past week.
