Kingsland (Ga.) Camden County offensive tackle J.P. Vonashek was offered by South Carolina just 11 days ago. After visiting Columbia today, the three-star prospect is a Gamecock.
"I committed to South Carolina this evening," said Vonashek. "I visited South Carolina today and it was everything that I was looking for."
Vonashek, who chose the Gamecocks offers from Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Michigan State, Ole Miss, North Carolina, Ohio State, and Tennessee among others, met with offensive line coach Shawn Elliott during his visit.
"Coach (Everette) Sands was my lead recruiter and he has been great. He wanted to get me up to Carolina, so we went up. I met with Coach Elliott, toured the facilities, and saw the additions to the weight room.
"After talking with Coach Elliott about his coaching style and their plans for me, I was hooked. Combine that with the campus, the academics, and the direction of the program, I knew where I wanted to be."
Upon returning home to Georgia, Vonashek called and became the 16th commitment in the Gamecocks 2013 recruiting class.
"I'm excited and relieved. It's a great feeling knowing where my future home is and knowing that I can head into my senior season without the distractions of the recruiting process.
"I'm excited to be a part of what Coach (Steve) Spurrier is doing at South Carolina."
The 6-foot-7, 275-pounder is the third offensive line commitment in the Gamecocks' 2013 class.
Vonashek joins the Dillon (S.C.) duo of four-star center Bryce King and four-star offensive tackle D.J. Park.
He is the No. 69 recruit in Georgia and is the No. 64 Offensive Tackle in the nation.
Vonashek has a 247Sports rating of 84, making him a 3-star prospect.
