Will passing attack fly high again?

Connor Shaw

South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw

South Carolina and quarterback Connor Shaw struggled in the passing game against Wofford. There is, however, a chance to move the football through the air against Clemson.

    • If Busta/Justice/Jerrell don't have 10 combined receptions, then we did something wrong. NCSU ate the tater's lunch with the TE's...no reason we shouldn't be able to exploit those mismatches to a greater extent.

    • It took Shaw most of last season to learn what "open" meant in the SEC. Nobody is gonna be two yards away from a defender at this level. You've got to anticipate and get the ball out before the receiver has made his move. By the end of the year last season, it seemed like the light had come on for Shaw. As much as I love the kid's heart, he has somewhat regressed this season. He has got to pull the trigger. Most of his INTs this season have been on passes where he has waited too long before finally deciding, "Oh...hey, look, he's open" and throwing much too late.

I agree whole-heartedly on the TEs. Good stuff ALWAYS happens when we throw to them. It boggles the mind why we a) don't call more plays for them; and b) Shaw hasn't picked up on the fact that they always make plays when he does throw it to them. Clemson's LBs suck. If we don't utilize the advantage we've got at the TE position, we don't deserve to win.

    • This will solve the "drop 8 into zone" problem. I feel like Spurrier will have a good plan. I really think he has a good feel for what to do against Clempson...

    • HBC has lost his ability to calls play's on the road. He needs to "dink and dunk" the Taters. LSU did the same to us. You don't always have to have a 30 yard pass.

It has nothing to do with the play calling. When you don't execute the play, ie: don't throw the ball, nothing is going to work. Shaw did well against Tennessee's zone, but they rushed 4 and 5. Wofford put their LB's in between Shaw and the receivers, and he kind of froze. Spurrier will coach him up on film this week, and he will smoke the tigers. The play calling will be good again.
