Bonnie Franklin sitcom star dies

  • Bonnie Franklin who portrayed the single mother Ann Romano on the 70’s sitcom One Day at a Time died Friday at her home due to complications from pancreatic cancer. She was 69.

I remember well that show as it was must see TV for me.

  • these young'un dont know this from adams housecat john

the daughters on the show, what a pair.....valerie bertinelli was hot & remained hot after this show

the other girl mckenzie phillips...what more do you have to say? i found her to be offputting when this was on tv..she never looked healthy & she wasnt.

the macho building super was quite the popular character for the time, think of the village people but hetero on steroids.

not a great show, but given you only had three real options back then, you took what you could get

much too young to die at 69 but pancreatic cancer dont play any favorites

i am turning 65 oh my. the end is near & all that stuff

  • Was not a fan of the show, but watched it frequently for the same reasons one rubbernecks at a bloody traffic accident, and to enjoy a pre Eddie Van Halen Valerie Bertinelli, plus as ABC mentioned, there was nothing else on.

I found McKenzie Phillps to be as dreadful an actress as she was a person. But if I had been the offspring of John and Michelle Phillips I would have probably been a bigger train wreck than she, so I shouldn't throw stones.

As far as the deceased she was an overactor from than Shatner/Ethel Merman school, but lacked their inherent charm. Her habit of staring into the camera woefully as a commercial break loomed was apparently a Norman Lear thing. But it was tolerable when it was Carroll O'Connor or Bea Arthur. Much less so, Bonnie Franklin.

Pat Harrington, Jr. and Bertinelli's perky little busom and rear end were the highlights of the show. But I'm sorry Franklin passed and wish the best to those close to her.

Your observation is pretty spot on ... choices were much more limited back in the day. The youth of today have no concept of the disadvantages we endured. Yet we made do.

Imagine making a pot of coffee without a Mr Coffee or heating up left overs without a microwave. Television with only three channels and if you had the right set of rabbit ears you might get a UHF station and all in black and white. The list goes on ...

the advantages of today are never to be underestimated

however, let me wax nostalgic about something i thought of today while pondering. when i was a kid i looked forward to the sunday newspaper because it had everything a kid my age in the south would want on a sunday....the box scores from the baseball games the prior day....as well as....ta da....the listing of every batting average of every player in the major leagues...from the guys batting .370 down to the poor smucks at .130

many fewer teams less platooning= fewer guys to keep up with. i could be conversant with the batting averages of every guy on every team

now, i know i can still get that, but, the sunday newspaper has just lost its appeal. sports then news & opinion. it all went to hades unavoidably

valerie b. was most definitely one of the best looking things on tv during those days, it goes without saying. mckenzie...geez...the idea of her gives me the prospect of bad dreams.

and if you wanted to change one of those 3 channels you had to get up off of your ass and walk to the tv.
