One of her employees said she wanted to devote more time to her other restaurant, DiPrato's, and to her pimento cheese business.
Personally, though, I think the place had slipped badly. We had a very disappointing meal there last year; it seemed like they had stopped caring.

Diprato's pimento cheese is great stuff. They always have it out to nibble on while standing in line.
I think the pimento cheese is very good but what makes it is the fried pita chips.
I know they tried to sell out to Rick Erwins in Greenville, but they wanted way to much. So now they are closed.

The DiPrato's / Pimiento Cheese thing is just a spin. The place wasn't doing enough business.
In addition to what has already been said, the only thing that had been updated since 2000 were the prices. And the average age had become 65+. Used to be one of my favorite spots.
All the blue hairs died out.
Too many new (and better) options in Columbia now. The place hadn't changed since it opened.
If you are lucky, you too will be 65+ one day...

If you want to eat chicken Parmesan for your anniversary dinner there are much cheaper options. IMO.
