Hate to link the Huffington Post, but interesting article.

  • Essentially a recent study ties low IQ scores to racism and social conservatism. I have a few concerns about the study and the correlation to social conservatives, but still an interesting study.

Intelligence Study Links Low I.Q To Prejudice, Racism, Conservatism

Are racists dumb? Do conservatives tend to be less intelligent than liberals?

next thing you know mahatma will find some study finding a correlation between low IQ and educational, cultural or social disadvantage and tying that with being reared in the south.

IQ doesn't have a whole lot to do with your education level. Like saying if you have a great recruiting class you're going to win the NC. You could find a study that correlates literally anything to another different anything.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I am all out of bubble gum.

Kind of like the direct correlation between the salaries of ministers in Massachusetts and the price of rum in Havana?

Racists are generally stupid people, that I will say.

I disagree in one sense. While you still have to learn to become educated, a high IQ helps you learn more quickly and allows you to learn more advanced concepts. So it does factor into your education. Someone with a low IQ can spend years studying quantum physics but never come close to understanding concepts that are basic to those with high IQs.

As to the article, I think the study is interesting if all they are measuring is one demographic -- say white males. But if you are measuring across demographics, I think cultural differences will explain conservative v. liberal better than IQ differences.

    Exactly, agree on all fronts.

I read somewhere than almost all college graduates have and IQ above 105 and almost all PhDs are over 120. Of course there are always a few exceptions, but it is almost impossible for someone with a low IQ to graduate from a major school for the reasons you said.

I think cultural differences more than anything tend to influence conservative vs. liberal. African Americans as a whole tend to be much more liberal regardless of IQ or education level. Conversely, rural whites tend to be more conservative.
