Help fixing my kick stand

  • My kick stand on my moped broke. There is a piece that comes off of it so you can push it down with your foot, and it broke off right at the weld. I don't have access to a welder. It is like a Z, and it broke right in the corner of the Z. What I did was this: I took some Allen wrenches and wire-tied them on either side to hold it in place. I bought some epoxy-putty, and unless ya'll have any better suggestions, I am going to put it back together with epoxy-putty, which is the strongest thing I can think of outside of a weld.

It has to be able to withstand a good bit of weight. I do not care how it looks, obviously, because it is on a moped. Y'all have any suggestions?

If you feel the need to make moped jokes, have at it. But, it beats walking. And, for the most part, it is better than calling a cab, or taking the bus.

Yeah, I suggest you get a respectable vehicle. This thread is embarrassing.

  • Anyway you can drill a small hole and install a small bolt with lockwasher and nut? This is just a piece to push the kickstand down right?

  • You can always buy a new DUI mobile.

  • You could look up a welder in the phone book. You cou could also contact the maker of your moped and order a new part.

Yes. I did not think of that. I don't know if it would work because of two things. 1) it has to go out for a couple inches, and then up, and 2) it has to support a lot of weight. It is a yamaha moped, and is pretty heavy. The piece has to support all the weight every time you push down the kick stand, but that is a good idea. I wonder if I could get a U-Bolt and clamp it back on. I don't think I could drill a big enough hole to get a strong enough bolt through there, but that is a good idea.

Thanks, you just gave me an idea.

You have no idea how hard it is to park a moped without a kick stand. You have to find a sturdy place to lean it, which is not easy.

I did not get a DUI. I am going back to school, and I am poor. A good moped that does not break down a lot is not cheap. I paid $2800 for mine. I bought another one online for $800 bucks, and it broke down after like 3 months, and a) its hard to find a place to work on the cheap ones, and b) the parts are impossible to find.

The yamaha has lasted for 6 yrs, and has over 30,000 miles on it, and is still going strong. You don't have to buy insurance, and it gets about 80mpg. They are perfect for someone like me.

Respectfully, perhaps if you got a part-time job instead of posting an average of 20 times a day on a football message board you could afford (a) to fix your moped or (b) to buy a better vehicle...

This. Get a JOB, if you used your 2800 + 800 you could have bought a decent vehicle and then your dog could ride with you.

Steve - Since you're talking about a moped here, you wouldn't happen to be the fat chick everyone likes riding until they get busted portion of the timeless joke, would you?

  • Why downvote someone for asking if anyone knows of an alternative to fixing a weld? This is not a joke thread.

My dang kickstand broke, and it is a pain in the buttock trying to find a place to lean it.

I repeat, not a joke. If I had a way to hook my cheap phone up to the interwebs I would take a pic.

No, but I will look, thanx. I was kinda hoping for a $5-$10 fix, but I may have to go that route. I am normally good at jury rigging stuff, but this has stumped me.

I have 2 jobs. Thank you for the advice, though. I really cannot afford gas and insurance for a car. I probably could, but would have to sacrifice other things like talking to my friends on TBS, and taking JiuJitsu and stuff.

My dog would really appreciate me getting a car, to your point, though. She does get to ride around when I go out with family and stuff, she loves it.
