I hate to bring up an old topic, but

Currently we all have the same rights when it comes to marriage. That's the definition of marriage equality.
What some want, however, is an additional right that currently they aren't afforded, namely marrying someone of the same sex.

Is this kinda like.... Everyone had the same right to ride a bus, but some folks wanted the additional right of being able to ride wherever they wanted....???

I get what you where trying to do here but this is actually wrong. No serious scholars ever thought that the earth was flat. According to Jeffrey Russell:

"With extraordinary [sic] few exceptions no educated person in the history of Western Civilization from the third century B.C. onward believed that the earth was flat,"

This myth was created by a few authors to discredit Catholics and scholars from the Middle Ages. I've always found this to be incredibly interesting.

I did not know that. I see that the article talks about educated and scienctific scholars recognizing this, but what about the everyday, average common man? By and large, a majority of people during this time period were not educated. Do you know or know of a resource to find out what the prevailing view among the population generally was?

But even still, the historical aspects of the flat earth theory was only a small, small part of my post and not my point at all. Any point in history where the sole reasoning for taking a position is because "I don't want anything to change" can be used. It doesn't matter to me.

You are so wrong, my friend. Don't know, nor does it matter, what religion/sect/etc you are but quite frankly I will not discuss interpretations of the Bible without a common base. My church has always taught that we live under the Blood, not the Law. The Law does/did not allow for a man to pray to God for forgiveness, only through sacrifice. Jesus erased that when the curtain around the Holy of Holies was ripped top to bottom.

The teachings of Jesus, the Council of Jerusalem, and other New Testament teachings (John 1:16-17, Acts 13:39, Romans 2:25-29, 8:1-4, 1 Corinthians 9:19-21, Galatians 2:15-16, Ephesians 2:15) make it clear that Christians are not required to follow the Old Testament rules about crimes and punishments, warfare, slavery, diet, circumcision, sacrifice, feast days, Sabbath observance, ritual cleanness, etc.

Christians still look to the Old Testament scripture for moral and spiritual guidance (2 Timothy 3:16-17). But when there seems to be a conflict between Old Testament laws and New Testament principles, we must follow the New Testament because it represents the most recent and most perfect revelation from God (Hebrews 8:13, 2 Corinthians 3:1-18, Galatians 2:15-20).

However, freedom from the Old Testament Law is not a license for Christians to relax their moral standards. The moral and ethical teachings of Jesus and His apostles call for even greater self-discipline than those of the Old Testament (Matthew 5:21-22, 27-28, 31-32, 33-34, 38-42, 43-48, 7:1-5, 15:18-19, 25:37-40, Mark 7:21-23, 12:28-31, Luke 12:15, 1 Corinthians 13:1-13, Galatians 5:19-21, James 1:27, 2:15-16, 1 John 3:17-19).

Thanks Dodger. How about Hebrews 13:4 concerning marriage and the sin of homosexuality. Folks here like to call Christians, like you and me, bigots or arrogant but... The first part of knowing you need a Savior is admitting you are a sinner. No one is better or worse than another. Homosexual or me. We are all guilty and in need of righteousness. Either internally or externally provided. Knowing I'm guilty, I'll look to Christ. Your witness is appreciated, even though you are a Dodger fan! :-)

    The rest... Flame away.

Answer: no, it's not kinda like. Not everyone could sit wherever they wanted, obviously. No additional right, just the same.

Not everyone can marry who they want.

You're basing you position on an assumption - that gay is a choice.

Every citizen of the US currently has the same marriage rights, no difference for gay, straight, bi. You have your opinion, I have mine and neither has anything to do with Fox News.

Being called homophobic, racist, sexist, etc has become an easy out for those who do not know how to have calm, considered, informed conversation.

I believe that homosexuality is a sin because I believe that the Bible is the Word of God. I believe that America is the greatest nation in the history of the world because we have protected the weak, defended right, and taken nothing from those who we protected. I believe that neither Repubs or Dems are always right or always wrong but both sets of politicians are out for themselves.

We can agree to disagree but that does not make you right and me wrong.

You're for banning gay marriage bc of what the Bible teaches us.

The Bible also teaches us that marriage is a life long commitment. Are you for banning divorce?

I don't see folks pushing laws to punish adulterers, either. I mean, if you're going to legislate from The Bible, shouldn't you start with the 10 Commandments?

Is there a reason why a homosexual should not be allowed to marry the consenting adult of his/her choice? Because right now, they can't do that anywhere except for a handful of states.

Two consenting adults vs an adult and an animal.

Personally, I'd just like to hear a logical reason a grown man/woman shouldn't be able to marry the person they so choose.

Do we, as conservatives, want less gov't control in all of our lives or do we not?

I know what you were getting at, just thought I would throw this out there. I really only found out about a year or two. Just think it was funny because our first grade teachers always made it sound like Columbus was challenging authority when he convinced the Spanish crown to fund him but in reality almost no scholars/leaders held the flat earth theory.

I'm sure there were a lot of Bavarian peasants during the middle ages that thought the Earth was flat. But, to be fair I think this is somewhat true for most uneducated people up until maybe the last 50-100 years, and perhaps even today.

I definitely get the point you were making though.
