I like the Lance Armstrong wannabes that will hold up traffic on a state highway when there is a BIKE lane 5 feet to the left.

dare i quibble, but there is an excellent reason to use the road. sidewalk=concrete pavement. the most unforgiving running surface possible. asphalt is less so, has an slight bounce in it compared to pavement.

a nice grassy, smooth no pot holes, is best for running, but try to find that in modern society unless its a golf course or something illegal to run on.

if i ran on the road i would get on the sidewalk if i began to encounter a car. i never had a big wish to tangle with thousands of pounds of metal glass & plastic. if the coast was clear i would try to use asphalt. you gotta make way for cars, imho

Oh, we're quibbling? Then, sir, I would make the argument that a surface of angry cobras would be the most unforgiving running surface possible. Soft, but "bitey".

I get your point about wanting to run on maybe the better surface, and I agree with you that anyone who does so needs to get back on the friggin sidewalk when vehicles approach. I also agree with your philosophy of deferring to the thing that ways tons more than me.
