NSIAP - Poodle attacks pit bull

I merely provided stats from a national site.

Didn't realize you were comparing dogs to people. I agree..my dog is better than most people.

The fluffiest yappy dog yaps less than you. So we agree.

I bet your dog can have rational interactions with someone without insulting them also. We could all learn something from our dogs

  • Listen, if you're okay sharing your home with a vicious deathmonger that's fine. Buf if any of my neighbors were ever dumb enough to get one of those things (unlikely since I don't live in a trailer park) I would kill it for sure. Better it than me IMO.

Just commenting on the ridiculousness of outlawing dog breeds. Pits are outlawed in some cities like Denver. There are much more important things to worry about, like people killing people.

I am pretty sure that Golden Retrievers are in the top 10 now in number of dog bites. Its just the most popular breeds are going to have the most bites.

I think people killing people is also illegal in Denver...I think.

  • What's even the point of owning a pit? Thousands of other breeds that don't come with the baggage. You're entitled to have whatever dog you want the same as I'm entitled to my opinion but if that breed was eradicated it would be for the better. I can say we have a small son, if a pit comes in our yard I'll shoot it and ask questions later, I'll not risk it for a second.

You're not. But it's not just one breed is the problem, i've seen German Shephards, rotts, boxers, etc, all aggressive because of poor owners.

Regardless of the owners - Chihuahuas are very mean - they're always growling and there is much gnashing of teeth and nipping at your heels ...
very scary - those little critters

  • My girlfriend's 3/4 lb Chihuahua attacked my ankles everyday I visited for the first 6 months we dated, it bites pretty much every kid that comes over. My pit lab mix however has never bitten anyone, I have even placed my arm in his mouth and he didn't bite me then. He does mouth a lot, which is worrisome. True pit bulls make up 14 of the 20 "superdogs" most "pitbulls" are actually "bullys" a mix of pitbulls and other dogs. Every breed has personality traits however the way the dog(any kind of dog) is raised is the most important factor in how the dog behaves. Also if you are a parent and you don't know how I have raised my dog, don't let your kid come running up to it to pet it, or pull on it's tail or fur. Be a responsible parent and keep your child away from what you are ignorant about.

Pits are one of the most intelligent, trainable, athletic dog breeds. They are a very versatile breed that can be used for anything from a guard dog, gun dog, to cherished family pet. What if a german sheppard, rot, boxer, golden, lab or poodle was in your yard? would you shoot it? Poodles are notorious biters. Any dog that you are a stranger to is a potential danger.

I'll grant you that. It does take athleticism to maim/kill/overpower a human being or larger animal.

  • Outlaw the pit. Then, when the German Sheppard and Rotty become the dogs of choice for poor owners, we can outlaw them. Eventually we can outlaw Labs too. I've been bitten by a parrot, outlaw that SOB too. I had a cat draw blood for no reason... screw that B, outlaw cats. Outlaw snakes too. I say the only pets we make legal are gerbils and fish.

Any of you know that only 1 dog has been on the cover of Time magazine? An APBT. An APBT is the 'spokesdog' for disabled animals. An APBT was in The Little Rascals. An APBT was Hellen Kellers dog. An APBT was the first dog to live in the White House. APBTs were used on American WW1 posters bc the represented strength, pride and courage. APBTs are nicknamed 'Nanny Dogs' bc of how good they are with children. But, eff all that stuff, bann this breed and all other animals that can harm humans. Gerbils and fish people!

A man has been killed by a cow before. Does that make cows athletic?

we should certainly be discussing outlawing cows now. I mean, they're man killers

I agree that fish and gerbils are fairly safe alternatives - Many Japanese have pet crickets - Many Clemnuts have pet sheep

Not sure I understand the importance or relevance of the comment, "...the pit...dogs of choice for poor owners" ... Just curious - could that be code speak for minority people of color??

No, it's code speak for owners that fight them, put them on chains in the yard and leave them, abuse them, and in general make them aggressive. When it comes time to get another dog I want an APBT, and I'll buy from 'a person of color' whom I've known for years that adores pits and has bred them for a very long time

Don't misinterpret my thoughts (curiosity) regarding your comment - I agree breeding any animal for fighting is malicious, despicable and inhumane.

It's just your phrase "dogs of choice for poor owners" had some overtones which may contribute to the racial stereotype. There are many wealthy Michael Vick types who participate in the practice.

not at all, just being clear.

it's almost always about how you raise an animal. Animals, like humans, can have issues/mental problems/etc that are difficult to detect and to overcome. I've got three dogs that have come together a sort of a hodgepodge, but two are Chihuahuas. They are as friendly as a lab. The want to lick people, play fetch and sit in anyones lap that will allow them, but the stereotype of Chihuahuas is much different.

You did realize my take on Chihuahuas was tongue-in-cheek?

Yo Quiero Taco Bell - now that's a sterotype.

Clemnut fans and their sheep - not a stereotype.

I didn't even realize it was you that said anything about Chihuahuas. Just using mine as an example bc they don't fit the model that most think about.

First of all, look of pics of Pits. You will see that they are some of the most beautiful dogs you have ever seen. They come in so many colors and combinations that you can find one to suit anyone. If you don't crop their ears, they stay puppy cute their entire lives also.

I have had Pits all my life. When I was little, I never even knew what kind they were. I never even paid attention until all the bad press in the 90's. I have never, ever had a problem with one. I know that plenty of people have had problems, but in general, they are very sweet. They are, as one poster said, drawn to children, and are very good with them.

I have had one or two that would fight other dogs if under certain circumstances, but who hasn't had a dog like that, if you have had at least 4 in your life? My current one, for some reason, will not fight back if she is attacked, which has happened. I know that almost no breeds are like that, so she is in the minority.

They do have this singularity of focus in what they do. Some call it stubbornness, or "gameness", but they do everything with extreme vigor. I think this is fun about them. They also are impulsive by nature. They do need to be exercised, because I have come home to a foam-filled living room, and found my couch nothing but 2x4's before.

You are aware they have psychiatrists who provide treatment and psychotropic meds for pets with aggression and separation anxiety disorders...I've known a couple of dogs who were on xanax.

I thought about it once for my Chihuahua but you know how stigmatized they can become if that gets out ... their friends often avoid them or give them strange glances.

I have thought about that. That was a good point about Poodles being dangerous at times when they have gotten a bad haircut, or when the bows don't match their toenails.

Dogs can be so cruel to one another, especially to ones like chihuahuas who may speak with an accent, or dogs who may be overweight. My dog gets made fun of because she wears socks that are different lengths, you can see it in my sig. She can be testy about that.

  • The funny thing about this entire thread is it's based on a poodle being aggressive towards a pit not the other way around. Maybe all poodles should be put down, why would anyone want to own a poodle?
