I liked "A Short History of Nearly Everything" by Bill Bryson. I still pick it up from time to time. I'm reading some crappy fiction right now, though.

Man, the offseason stinks....

Finishing up a fiction fix a the moment with the 5th book in the Song of Ice and Fire series. Looking to delve back into the non-fiction realm. I've had Undaunted Courage by Stephen Ambrose (Lewis & Clark expedition) sitting in my bookcase for years now and have yet to read it. Thinking about jumping on that next. I've enjoyed everything else I've read from Ambrose, so I assume this one is just as good.

I'm not overly religious, but am enjoying "lead like Jesus" by Ken Blanchard, the author of one minute manager. Really good read.

Just started "The Glass Rainbow", by James Lee Burke. He's the best author ever, and Dave Robicheaux is the best character ever.

I am reading "Blood on the Moon" by Dr Edward Steers. It is the gold standard book about the assassination of President Lincoln. I highly recommend it to anyone.

I have either read or listened to every Robicheaux book. Just finished "The Tin Roof Blowdown" last week. I've also enjoyed the Billy Bob Holland and Hackberry Holland books he's written. He's a brilliant writer but every time I finish one, I tell myself I'm done with Burke because they are so damn depressing and his liberal preaching has gone overboard now. I'm sure I'll go back for more though.

I like Baldacci too. Me and you have similar taste in authors, it sounds like. Do you like Michael Connolly, Lee Child, Stephen Hunter, Robert Crais, or Harlan Coben?

Reading "My Share of the Task" by General Stanley McChistal and Neil Young's autobiography - both are pretty interesting. Usually have two going at the same time - one e-book, and
one hardcover. Can read the e-book from my phone - when I am killing time or in line, etc. Agree with the earlier comment on James Lee Burke - had the chance to meet him a few years ago - very nice man and Dave Robicheaux - is one of the best fiction characters ever. I also like Michael Connelly, and Robert Crais. Saw Crais here in St. Louis a couple of weeks ago - great guy - used to be a major script writer for Hill Street Blues and L.A. Law - still think Hill Street was one of the best shows ever on TV. I trade - off between fiction and non-fiction Love crime fiction - Leonard, Connelly, Randy Wayne White, and a Key West writer - Tom Corcoran. Vacation on Captiva Island as often as I can - Randy Wayne White writes about the area - and has a bar over on Sanibel - Doc Ford's - named after his main character. Corcoran writes Key West crime series - used to be a photographer and did one of the
original album covers for one of his friends - Jimmy Buffett - album - "A White Sports Coat and Pink Crustacean". Corcoran kind of flies under the radar screen but tells a good story.
I should have noted I also like Daniel Silva and I asked Michael Connelly when he was in town last year who he liked of the "new writers" - he said Charlie Newton - read one by him - not bad.

John sandford's Prey Series is great too. I love Lee Childs Reacher series also.
