I could be wrong but I don't think transcripts was ever an issue before. I believe historically transcripts were out there to be viewed if desired - no one ever had them sealed before.

Birthplace was an issue for George Romney and John McCain. It's not that Obama was black, Jackson was black and I believe Sharpton and Moseley Braun were black as well yet I don't recall there being any issues surrounding their births hence no need for proof by birth certificate.

It's not that Obama had a muslim sounding name - he had a muslim father and later had his name changed and moved to Indonesia and attended a school which required you to be Indonesian.

Obama is the only candidate to have had a grandmother state he was born in Kenya.

Obama is the only candidate to perhaps have received financial aid as a foreign student to attend college. And of course those college admission records are sealed.

Obama was the only candidate to travel to Pakistan at a time when travel by U S citizens was prohibited. And of course all passport information has been sealed.

Everything cited about Obama is anecdotal and coincidental, but of course Romney must be trying to hide something.

So it's OK to ask for all kinds of things from Obama no other Presidential candidate has been asked for because right-wingers have other heard other right-wingers get in a circle jerk and make up all the now disproven rumors you just repeated?

But it's not OK to ask Willard to release multiple tax returns like every major party presidential candidate but one has over the last few decades?

By the way, here's a link from Fact Check. NOTHING IS SEALED.

Here's another link from Politifact. Obama's grandmother never said he was born in Kenya. She said he was born in America. You can listen to the actual conversation at this link.

I really hope you'll read these links in TOTAL, both from totally non-partisan sites that have been bitingly critical about some things the Obama campaign has said.

  • I can certainly appreciate the need to be vetted

Look what we got without vetting the current WH occupier.

Mocking? Please ... It was Dukakis who put on the helmet of a warrior and rode atop an Abrams tank. It was Kerry who rode into the 2004 convention in a mockery of a swift boat mission relived and saluted as he said, "no retreat, no surrender..."

The band aids were not a mockery of the Purple Hearts received by thousands of Americans but rather a reference to Kerry's receipt of awards he may not have deserved. But again, we'll never know as he's had his military records sealed. On the other hand I guess that's not really an issue since he threw his medals away as a form of protest - no mockery there?

Not surprised you left Clinton and Bidden off your litany of draft dodgers...I suppose it doesn't fit into your narrative.

Obama spent close to 4 million dollars to seal his college transcripts (all of them from multiple schools) from review along with all of his passport information. That is not the norm for someone running for political office.

81, I have to chime in. If you think Fact Check and Politifact are "totally non-partisan sites" then you have been greatly deceived. They both have a decidedly left-slant in their so-call 'fact checks'.

I beg to differ on "nothing is sealed". Columbia University will not allow access to any college records, the same as USC for you & El Cid for me, unless the student gives express, specific permission to release them. They are, in fact, sealed because he will not give that permission.

The reason that persons on "the right" want to see the records is to disprove the notion that different reports say over 400 Columbia University students of the Class of 1983 (my year) say they do not recall ever seeing or meeting Barry Soetoro or Barack Hussein Obama. Also, the idea has been floated that he will not release the records because, in order to afford the steep tution, he applied and was accepted as a foreign exchange student (I do believe he is a US citizen, by the way) and also that his grades were below standard.

I don't know if that is true but if everyone on the left wants the tax returns released so they can see what Romney is hiding, then the same principle/standard applies to NObama's (school) records. Equal is equal, right ?

Also, there are no rules about releasing 3, 5, 10, or 20 years of tax returns. Don't make it sound like there is. This nonsense is why we can not get anyone decent (Rep or Dem) to run for office anymore...everyone wants to dig for dirt and be the first to expose some secret.

How about we all focus on the issue at hand! The economy sucks, Obama is more focused on campaigning that staying in DC and fixing it, the Reps & Dems both are useless, and we, the dumbmasses (say it fast for full effect) are the ones paying for it.

If everyone would stop trying to deflect focus from the issues, we would all be better off. The unemployment rate rose to 8.3% (closer to 16% in real terms) and we are worried about this crap.

The country needs jobs. The country needs answers to real problems (Obama's college record & Romney's taxes do not meet this criteria) and we all need to focus on solutions.

    Couple of notes:

If you can't accept that Fact Check and Politifact are non -partisan(both have been bitterly critical of the Obama campaign) we can't even get on the same planet.

You are dead right about the economy and the need to focus on it. When you righties go on and on about all this crazy stuff, all you are doing is helping Obama change the subject. As someone who supports Obama only because he's not Willard, I appreciate it. But, I don't get why y'all do it.

you choose your indignation most judiciously. kerry served in nam and he was trashed for it.

To the GOP elites, serving in the military, like paying taxes, is for the little people or "those people" as Ann Romney says.

Certainly didn't use to be that way as McCain and Bush 41 can attest.

understand but we will not be on the same planet, too many little things (details) ignored when conservatives or conservative issues are "scored"

You generalize too much in this instance with "you righties". The Rep establishment has grown to old & elitist and refuses to change with the times. That is why I consider myself a Reagan Conservative and would never register as a Rep. I do not understand why so many on the right spend all of their energy on ANYTHING other than making NObama run on his record (or lack thereof).

When Romney finally reveals that Paul Ryan is his VP choice (I would prefer Marco Rubio... met him, very personable) hopefully the campaign will make a turn toward reality. If not, this election is over and, IMHO, America as we have known it is dead.

All that said, the Olympics sure are better now that 40 years ago if only because of the bikinis in women's beach volleyball, right ?

You make some good points. IMO the republicans spend way too much worrying about the wrong things (Gay marriage, abortion, etc). If I was a top adviser in the party, I'd move completely away from the whole social conservatism thing and focus more on economics and business. I'd also disassociate with people like Palin and Bachman for starters, they are they are nothing but the object of jokes. The republicans have this image of the old guard and are pretty unappealing to most young voters, which isn't a sustainable plan long term. Plus, its not as if they don't already have the 65+ white baptist vote already locked up.

Conservatives as a whole need a new home, the GOP in its current configuration is so out of touch it really has no function. That is where we part ways, however. The Conservative stand for Protection of Marriage Act, anti-abortion on demand, anti-gov't involvment/big gov't, etc is the basis of our beliefs. The GOP has allowed itself to be defined by the really, really extremists -- Moral Majority, clinic bombers, etc -- much as Romney has allowed himself to be defined by the Dems up to this point.

The GOP of the 70s/80s is dead because the 'old guard' is too stuck in the past to see the future. That is why Romney is the nominee and he is ignoring Marco Rubio..

To me this will be the major issue for the Republicans going forward. While you and I'm sure lots of others want these things to be political issues, for most people under 40 they just aren't. The Republicans should adopt more libertarian stances on social issues and rebrand themselves as the party of fiscal responsibility and complete social freedom. Something like a moderate libertarian (if there is such a thing).

Just my opinions on what would help the party best. Just looking at their political views, the Republicans need less guys like Santorum and more like Romney.
