unemployment down to 8.3%

nearly 250k private sector jobs created. good news for america. good news for obama. four more years coming into focus. like it or not. america is not going to vote for richy rich. maybe donald trump as veep nominee.....omg the hair

Take out the underemployed and part timers along with those who have dropped out and see what you have.
If you depend on MSNBC and MSN for news remember they only have 38 viewers.
James Earle Carter> Barack Hussein Obama. Did not think it was possible to look upon Carter as a better choice than anyone but.....

    • Since Obama and his policies are - and have proven to be - bad for America, I do hope he fails!
I do not think America can truly grow and be our best with the government making all the decisions and spending out of control.
It really bothers me that Obama thinks he knows better how to spend what I earn than I do!

        • The only reason the economy is slightly improving is because Republicans control the house and Obama bills and plans are not getting passed so economy is improving by it's self that's called free market.

of course you are not hoping for america to fail. i know that. however, i am merely reflecting how this plays out politically. the gop is in the position where economic gains hurts their nov chances. thats just a fact. so, the optics of the matter is easily played by cynical poltical types, and i am not one, i just think like them....its easy to portray the oppo as hoping for decline

its a talking point, an argument. it can be effective too. americans, by nature, want to be positive, so they often clutch to candidates who wax nostalgic & positive....see reagan, ronald among others

economic downturns eventually turn up. if obama happens to catch that wave, he likely wins. if not, its a crap shoot

but, all in all, i certainly think 8.3 is better than 9.9 unemployment. we aint in good shape, i know that, but americans love to hope....that is our story. hope for the future.

i hope the best for your future old man.

I agree that economic gains hurt the GOP's chances in November. It is my opinion that the reason for this is that the casual voter (the voter that pays little attention to policy, and typically makes their decision based on whose rhetoric they buy into) will say that the lower unemployment rate is proof that Obama's policies are working. As you stated, downturns eventually turn up, which does not mean that Obama is doing anything right, yet he will reap the benefits nonetheless. Some of us have not forgotten that Obama said that unemployment would not climb above 8%. Yes, it has dropped below its highest point, however, it is still above that 8% threshold.

I can't say that I am overly excited about any of the frontrunning GOP candidates at this point either. I think that the entire system needs a big shakeup at this point, and I'm not sure that either Romney or Newt are that guy. Of the current candidates, I would throw my backing behind Ron Paul, but he doesn't seem to have a prayer at this point. Everyone wants change, but we keep voting the same guys into office. Even the new guys going to Washington seem to have the same agenda as the old guys. I'm looking for candidates with radically different ideas. Real change. Will it work? I don't know. But I'd like to try something different.

I am also a firm proponent of term limits for all of Washington. Any politician, left in office for years and years, will eventually lose sight of truly working for the people that voted them in, because they are no longer a part of that demographic. I have to perform my job on a daily basis, or I get canned. If I only had to convince 51% of the folks that decide to keep me here that I will get my job done like they expect in the coming years once every 4 years, I'd have it made. I could basically slack off for the first 2-3 years, then work a little more in year four and show them how things were "improving." I would just need 4 more years to really turn it around.

You and I are agreeing occasionally on some things. It is starting to concern me.

i would not say it is likely obama is reelected. he has a hard sell no matter what. the past three & half years have been like taking an enema, watching the buffoons in washington fiddle while rome burns, it burns me up. obama is not a very effective leader.

but, if the economy marginally edges in the right direction & with iran & israel & north korea making ugly sounds, i just doubt the nation will turn to mitt romney for international leadership. obama can claim osama bin laden & quaddafi, mitt can counter with the cayman islands....just not a winning strategy

romney is a horrible, horrible candidate, prone to say moronic things. i think its because he is richy rich on steroids, may mean well but rubs people the wrong way.

the low turnout in last nights states for the gop is a bad sign. nobody really wants any of those guys

I agree. I don't think Obama has done a good job at all and it really upsets me. But he is a rock star type and has a large following. He can harness the youth vote and win over the media. I think as long as things marginally improve and nothing drasticly goes wrong, he will beat out any of the Republicans. None of them really bring much to the table.

I agree with you on Romney. Terrible candidate and really a pretty arrogant guy. He has a national appeal, but if he was smart he would take Ron Paul. As weird a team as that would be, Ron Paul could be a successful counterweight to Obama and the two of them could tout their economic ideas. It might work.

                • No thanks to me! I'm jumping through hoops trying to get SSDI after working the last 10 years; yet I see people that get around fine milking the system. One guy was working under the table, drawing unemployment, and getting food stamps! I'm paralyzed from the shoulders down; but since I'm honest and have been lucky enough to find CAD work when I'm able to do it full time, I'm no longer deemed "disabled"...

The system screws honest, hard working people like yourself, and panders to the lazy bums that just don't want to work.
