Tony Im hopeful you will guide me on where you see SS taking the O based on the adjustments make in the second half vs TN.
It seems ML and SG were both bruisiing inside runners so the D didn't have to move far to adjust to the defending SG when he pulled it and therefore the d pinched into a block inside and short making inside and intermediate patterns difficult, increasing blitz optins and making ML's life misrable.
CS is a quick footed, mobile option with above ave top end speed who runs off tackle thus requiring the D to step further out when he pulls it. I would like to see a significant intergration of the speed option as a set and to include end arounds and reverses from byrd(world class flat speed), ace( elite college football speed and experienced running in traffic via punt returns and catching screens )and bruce( above average speed, solid power and mega wigglle, body control and explostion offering a multe threat running both in space and traffic, catching screens and complementary throwing threat) to replicate the sideline to sideline pressure of the tripple option in our run game. Having it as a regular creates option to run with QB, rb or speed man, QB fake to one, the other or both, short pass to rb across the middle or to speed man as he floods the flat. to futher spread the pressure qb can cont to throw the standing screen to AJ we saw SS unfold plus this lockes two dbs on one sideline.
If we were to regularly use the speed option avenues along with AJ set out on the top then it seems the D would have to committ more resources to the breath of the line of scrimage and thus subtract resources from either the pass rush, run d at point of attack or go to a dime to increase speed. doing so would downsize the d and exposing it to our bread and butter the inside read primary power game and make them more likely to wear down. the set SS unfolded forces the base 4 dbs out to the sidelines and if d doesn't add more dbs or undouble AJ the only choice left is an open middle using linebackers to cover the inside reciever, te or rb patterns and the running lanes with no safties to provide run or pass support since they are playing the bound lines .they can't be in two places at once
it seems SS has found a way to force the d to play a greater range on the line of scrimage and emphasising the speed option would do so even further thus decreasing pass pressure on shaw and or opening inside running and passing lanes as well as intermediate deep patterns, and forcing the opposing d to either downsize personell and or unclog the middle.
Do you see him intergrating the speed option in a fashion similar to this. If so how if not then what? thanks
I apologize for having initially posted this in the wrong thread. thanks
