Whatever you do, DO NOT Boo Navy

  • I doubt Navy gives a damn whether we boo them or not. We're not going to hurt their feelings.

  • Those men are going to risk their lives for you when they graduate for at least 5 years. At LEAST 5 years. I hope we win easily, but show them respect. Pull for your team, not against the oponent

  • im pretty sure they know they are playing away and expect to get booed....i would expect to get booed at an away game...i used to boo the naval academy grads when i was a young devil dog in pensacola because i just dont like sailors...if they cant handle a little booing then they definately dont need to go to combat...they should grow a sack and restart. • I don't boo any opponent **. I respect them as competitors and I hope the Gamecock players respect them too as they blister their hind ends at football.

True champions play hard, play to win but play with respect.

** except for Clemson. They must die.

    GamecockDKC

  • Yeah I can't believe I'm reading not to boo a football opponent. They are the naval academy, not the Navy, and they are responsible for one of the worst losses in USC history.

If I'm standing on one side of the Gulf and booing them as they destroy terrorists, then I should be ashamed.

    Sheesh.

I bet all the posters who wants to boo at Navy probably has never had a loved one in the military or in harms way.

LMAO. I have nephew pouring sand out of his boots as we speak and if he was playing the Gamecocks, I would boo the piss out of him too just as he would me. Its football.....

  • Don't think anyone d necessarily cheer for Navy, but why in the hell would we boo them

Booing is kind of weird anyway. I especially like the fans that interrupt and ruin our entrance during 2001 so that they can boo the other team. Never made any sense to me.

Do you grown men and women really yell
    "booooo"?

I will treat navy players with respect and will cheer like hell for the Gamecocks. Can do both.

Clemson, I don't boo. I generally yell obscenities their way ad say things I'm ashamed of he next morning, but they deserve it all!

  • Booing is for people who have a low self esteem problem because it makes them feel better.

Remember who they are and what they represent. Cheer for them when they come out.

I never "boo" other teams, but what a blowhard post. Give me a break. I'll never cheer for an opposing team team, that's for damn sure.

These guys want to join the Navy, and that's their prerogative. Why am I supposed to kiss their ass for it? They're not doing it for free. Every student at the Naval Academy goes to school for free, then is commissioned in at a very nice pay grade and has unmatched job security and benefits for life.

This is a football game, and I'd like to see USC come out pissed off and pound them into the ground. It'd be quite therapeutic to watch a good ol' fashioned ass whipping after all the doubts and concerns we've had to worry with over the past couple weeks.

  • It's always easy to tell who the young'uns are along with those who weren't raised around the word RESPECT on this board. Good character should never be set aside in the name of sports...that's why the word SPORTSMANSHIP is in the dictionary.

If I had my way about this issue, the military teams we play against would be brought out onto the field, introduced by our announcer, the National Anthem would be played and these young men who will be risking their lives for our feedom would be given a standing ovation for their service to our country. The world would get to see a fan base with some real class and we would set the standard for how our military should be honored...even on the football field.

It would be awesome to hear the announcer say ... "Ladies & Gentlemen, please stand and give a standing ovation to these young men who serve their country and risk their lives for our freedom. Never forget that without them and the many others serving in our military branches that this would not be the great country we live in today."

When the game starts, let the teams fight it out on the field.

After the game...win or lose, our fans should still show respect to these young men and thank them for serving their country. They are after all, part of the reason you and I have this thing we know as freedom. But a lot of you aren't familiar with the word RESPECT. It saddens me to see our younger generations being so self serving and so lacking of character. How sad that America is going to pot, even when it comes to football. Those of you to whom I am referring may now start downvoting...enjoy it. That is what I have come to expect from you.

I certainly don't plan on booing Navy, however you just can't do what you that in regard to introducing them to the crowd.
It is not a matter of respect. There were some on here last season that after Kenny McKinley died wanted us to wear all black and have the team observe a highlight video of McKinley right before the game etc.
And that was a bad idea and it's not because I don't miss McKinley and wasn't sad about it...it's just that football is an emotional and physical game, it involves a certain mindset one has to be in. It basically requires one side trying to beat the brains out of another. I'd be willing to bet the Navy guys would feel very awkward getting a standing ovation from the away crowd before the game.
Tim Frisby did a great service to his country but I don't think you were going to get Florida, Georgia etc. to allow for a standing ovation before the game and, again, I don't think it would be because those opposing fans didn't respect his service to our country.
After the game, if you want to pat a Navy kid on the back or wish them well, that's fine and appropriate. And it's always appropriate to thank a member of our military for their service. Just not right before you would like nothing better than to beat them 56-0. That's just a little awkward, don't you think?

While I never boo any team when they come on to the field at Carolina, these young men I certainly will give a round of applause. They, and many like them are the reason my family gets to sleep safe tonite. The ball game starts later.

  • The only team I boo is Clemson, and I wear myself out doing that.

Thanks, this is exactly my point and you said in one sentence what took me a whole paragraph.
Football is just a game...and while it is true that some of us live and die with our team, there are more important things in life. As a country, we just tend not to honor those who put their lives on the line and serve our country and that's a shame. It would be nice to see that change.

Personally, I think every military school should be honored by the crowd before a game is played in every stadium across America. I know it will never happen as the Patriotism in this country seems to be taking a nap, but it certainly would be nice to see.

@ DietMountainDew... I agree with you... I almost never boo and it takes a lot for me to do things like that. I make lots of exceptions for those wearing urrange. I have no respect for those cheaters and their fans who are proud that they cheated to win a title. If our Gamecocks cheated to get a title, I wouldn't be able to claim it, I'd be ashamed of it.

If you have to tell a grown person not to boo or spit on others, they have bigger issues than a football game.

  • Y'all lets be real, come on to boo someone who has their life on the line, for you thats retarded. Do not boo, and make our university look like the most unintelligent school in the United States really?

  • I don't boo anybody, but refs when they make a bad call. I dont wear a jersey either. I also don't spit on people.

My point is Navy is Navy. We are paying them $1,000.000.00 to come here. We don't need to treat them any different from anyone else. By some of the analogies here we should have not scheduled them because we are traitors by not pulling for them.
