2012 US Open Contest

  • Welcome TBS members to the 3rd Annual US Open Contest!

This year's venue is staged at San Francisco's, The Olympic Club. Albeit not a staple in the rotation, Olympic has hosted some memorable US Opens from Palmer's collapse in '66(Billy Casper) to the controversial '98 event(Janzen over Payne Stewart) featuring the virtually unputtable 18th green.

Although it measures less than 7200 yards(par 70) and lacks any water or out of bounds, this gem is quite formidable. Holes 1-6 may be the toughest opening stretch in golf. The par 5 16 measures 670 and should play over par according to Lefty. Like most US Opens, Olympic demands accuracy off the tee. The uniqueness here requires accurate shaping off the tee to hold the many reverse-sloped dogleg fairways. Unpredictability has proven to be the norm when staged here and prompted journalist Dan Jenkins to quip "the wrong guy wins every time".

Contest rules: Pick the winner and and the winning score.

    Tie breakers...

1st Tie breaker: Pick the winner's 1st round score
2nd Tie breaker: Pick the winner's 4th round score
3rd Tie breaker: Winner's birdie tally for the week

****In the event no one picks the winner, we'll go with the winning score and highest finish picked with that winning score.****

(No grand prize this time, but bragging rights are up for grabs!)

****Entries need to be in by 10 am Thursday to qualify!!****

    Notable Thursday tee times(EST)....

    10:33 am - Mickelson, Woods, B. Watson
4:29 pm - Donald, McIlroy, Westwood
4:36 pm - Kuchar, Poulter, Stricker
4:40 pm - Furyk, Garcia, McDowell
    4:58 pm - Fowler, Ishikawa, D. Johnson
