2012 Wide Receivers

  • Losing Alshon stinks but it appears that we might have the deepest receiving corps I can ever recall in 2012. Any guesses to who will step up?

    Returning players:
    Bruce Ellington
    Ace Sanders
    DL Moore
    Nick Jones
    Lamar Scruggs
    DeAngelo Smith
    Damiere Byrd
    KJ Brent
    Shamier Jeffrey

    Newcomers:
    Shaq Roland
    Jody Fuller
    Kwinton Smith

  • JR had 10 ready for us this year and we only lost Alshon and Barnes. I imagine next year there will be more.

  • Younger brothers are usually better athletes because they play against the older and his friends. I vote for shamier!!

  • Shamier Jeffrey will play and play a lot from what I've heard.

  • I want to see what KJ can do. I have heard good things about him. Same with Shamiere. We need to use Byrd more. Ace will be our #1 guy IMO

  • JR said we had 10 ready to play but very few of our guys seemed SEC ready - at first glance. There are alot of different variables that came into play this season that hurt the unit from a production standpoint, so I'm confident we'll make some big strides in the passing game next season.

Hopefully stability at the QB position and an effective running game, paired with an improved OLine will give them more opportunities to shine.

Guys like Lamar Scruggs, DeDe Smith, and DL Moore have performed well in practice and in the spring but that success hasnt translated over to the game field. I think Shamier, Ace and D. Smith will be our top contributors (Bruce is a toss up right now, if he focuses on football the sky's the limit IMO)

  • Is Bruce going to be back or is he just going to play bball?

My guess at the top 6 rotation would be:

    Ace
    Shy
    Damiere
    Roland
    DD Smith
    DL Moore or Kj Brent

Scruggs gone, Nicky Jones on the bubble, Bruce sticks with hoops full time

Here is the problem, we have played this song many times since 2000. Unfortunately for the most part we have never had two monsters on the field at the same time. Will 2012 be the year? We shall see. I believe Shaw can distribute the ball, but whoever starts needs to figure out how to get open.

Scruggs won't see any time. I don't think Smith will either.

    Duckhuntercock

  • My uneducated guess says
starters - Jeffrey, Ace, Roland, Ellington/Byrd (in 4 reciever sets)
Next - Moore, Byrd, Ellington, Brent/Scruggs
    RS- Fuller, Smith
Prob not play D Smith, Jones

    gamespur

  • i expect 1 or 2 of them to transfer

but should be a storng group no matter what

    Parth

  • Other than Alshon, Ace & Ellington I would say nick Jones had the biggest impact at crucial times. I'm not sure how the reception numbers worked out after the top three, but I like Nick Nones.

Yeah listing your entire roster doesn't mean you're deep.

Yea we look good on paper. Shaw will hopefully learn to trust his guys more and hit smaller windows which I think will help tremendously.

  • Sid and Kenny Mac were the closest to a two headed monster we've had on awhile.
We are not deep. Production coming back is probably amongst the worst in the SEC. potential is there.

KJ looked great in every practice and scrimmage that I went to. Hopefully it carries over to Saturdays.

Quantity doesn't equal quality unfortunately. Our WR situation is scary. Guys outside of the studs just don't get better under Jr. See Smith, Moore, Suggs, Barnes, Bennet, etc. Same players they were when they got here. Watch the cap one bowl. WR couldnt get open the majority of time. Big big issue. Not much talent there right now.

  • I was critical of our receivers the last couple of years but I think many of those I was critical of are gone. I see a much better crop of receivers now. I think we need to remember the change in QBs and the massive inconsistency of our line led to a very anemic passing game, so not all the blame can go on the WRs. That being said, some of the returners will have to make great strides if they intend to keep their spots on the depth chart. Jones, Scruggs, Smith, and Moore better step up or they will watch from the sidelines. I think Byrd will have a breakout year in 2012 and if Ellington returns, I honestly think he can be a factor much like Kenny McKinley was for us.

  • What is up with everyone saying Nick Jones won't play? He played well when he was in IMO. Why didn't he play down the stretch??

That's a pessimistic outlook for sure. Do we have unanswered questions...absolutely. To say that there's not much talent is ludicrous. Shaq Roland does not have talent? Most of our receivers were rated 4* coming out of high school so somebody thought they had some talent.
