A nugget from St. Matthews FWIW

  • My uncle from St. Matthews just talked to Alshon's dad last week and it is not a forgone conclusion at all that he is leaving early to turn pro. He knows his stock has fallen and knows there is good chance he won't go until the second round. His father said he is struggling with the decision and that there is a real possibility he could return next year for his senior season. Again take it for what it's worth, just thought I'd pass it along.

I hope he makes the best decision for himself. If Alshon goes pro, I have no don't he'll get paid in a couple of years.

  • Once some of those draft projections come out and agents feed him the amount he could make he'll be gone. His stock is at the highest point it will be from here on out with a run first offense

  • So you're sayin theres a chance....

In all seriousness, Alshon should go pro. USC is loaded at WR anyway. It would be a pleasant surprise.

I agree that Alshon should go pro but it's not because we are loaded at WR. AJ is the only proven WR we have. Sanders, if given more opportunities, can be very very good but all others are unproven. Hopefully, with Shaw at the helm next year, your statement will prove to be correct, but until then, it is nothing more than wishful thinking.

  • Evidently we have posters more connected to Alshon than his own father. Now that is the inside stuff folks......where else can you get this?

  • Thanks for the info and I would LOVE it if he stays. With the others underclassmen staying, hopefully this will be a trend. It's certainly not unprecedented: Barkley at USC was going to be a top ten pick and came back. Andrew Luck last year. Tebow.

I think he could put up some eye popping numbers next year; break every record we have; and be a lynchpin for an SEC title and even bigger.

A lot of ups to coming back.

  • Alshon most likely will not blow people away with his 40 time, which the combine is all about. So if his stocked droped this season and they tell him second round, its 80% of the time later for our guys than projected. If he stays he has. Full spring and fall camp to build chemistry. With latt coming off ACL we could easily be back to 50/50 offense and with a new revamped OL even better. I know his family could use the money but let's face it, its all about the first round money and he can play with his brother another year. I would love for him to " beast mode" in the weight room this spring/summer and kill it next year like Ingram

  • I guess his dad just made this info up to get the message boards in a frenzy and he's telling some posters his true intentions.

Alshon told me there was "no way in f^*k" he is coming back. Wish he would though as I agree with his stock dropping.

I love when people make posts like this that add nothing to the discussion and frankly do little more than show the poster's immaturity.

I call them a bunch of idiots. If he comes back he will certainly be a 1st rounder. Right now he is on the edge.

No No No...ignore what his own father says about AJ being conflicted...there are obviously posters ITT that are alot more plugged in than Alshon's dad...and IF he elects to go pro, that will constitute irrefutable proof of just how "right" these posters were

I honestly think if he stayed he would get a lot more catches next year. Shaw has had time to settle in and we wont have a sputtering Garcia for part of the season next year so we should actually have an offensive identity to build off of. Also, we do have a lot of highly touted recruits at the receiver position but I wouldn't say we are loaded just yet - at least not until we see this skill transfer to the field (which I believe it will) but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
