ACC Rumor

  • Just that,a rumor.
Making the rounds in the Raleigh area has Penn State and Notre Dame joining the ACC. Only credence is a sometimes Sports Talk person thinks there is some possibility.
    My opinion,wishful thinking.
Another note from that area. Sentiment for NCS joining the SEC is growing. This contrasts to last year when it was brushed off.

  • ND would be a perfect fit for an overrated conference.

  • don't know about ND but Penn State is a pipe dream.... why would PSU leave the most profitable conference in the country and give up games against Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Michigan State for games with Nc State, Maryland and Clemson??

  • Did the ACC start that rumor? Not happening.

Clemson starts the rumors... they are grasping at straws... they are either bolting to the Big 12 and will make twice what they are in the ACC or else the ACC is going to poach ND and PSU to make the ACC relevant in football....
They already tried adding members to make the ACC relevant with the addition of FSU, MIAMI and Va Tech... it has been a massive fail as those teams have all managed to play down to their competition. Taters are in a bad spot and they know it.

    GCIT

  • I think the ACC will have difficulty taking anyone from another conference that is worth anything or Notre Dame. Why would you jump to a conference who may be pushed out of the proposed national championship format. Clemson has to hope for either a bid to another major conference or stay in the ACC and hope it improves.

That started on the NC State message board by some poster who claims to be a former State player who knows some prof at ND who sits on some athletic advisory board at ND.

The bottom line is that some of the the ACC schools have joined in one big conference circle jerk about ND joining and then throwing in PSU for good measure. It's pretty funny. Just another sign of how desperate that conference and some of their member's to be considered football relevant.

As for the NC State folks the younger fans who see the future know there is no future national relevance for football by staying in the ACC. They want to join the SEC. The older, nostalgic fans and big donor's who are basketball/ACC centric want to stay in the ACC despite being treated like garbage by the powers who run the conference (ie., Duke and UNC).

  • I believe conferences are courting ND to join in all sports other than football, if ND will agree to play 3 or 4 conference football games a year but still keep their independent status and their NBC TV contract.

  • Notre Dame will never join the ACC. Their natural rivals are in the Big 10 or whatever you call it. If they join a conference it will be the Big 10. I don't even see them going into the Big 12. As for Penn St, that is just laughable. The ACC is done!! Clemsux is done!!! Let them live in their little world, no one gives a shit about Clemsux anymore and their coaches are just a bunch of bumbling buffoons.

Exactly. No way in Hades that ND trades a night game @ michigan for a noon kickoff @wake forest

  • Penn State would actually be a good fit in the ACC now that Pitt and Syracuse have joined. They definitely don't have any natural rivalries in the B1G. Having said that, it won't happen, and zero chance ND to ACC happens.

  • The Clemson fans have been talking about ND as if it were likely for a while. I've never seen a real good argument as to why ND would make the move. Anyone that thinks PSU would make the move is on crack.

The Big12 met with Notre Dame last week. The topic was 1. Notre Dame coming over in all sports and keeping the NBC deal. 2. Notre Dame coming in all sports except football until the new playoff system / NBC contract expires. 3. Taking two ACC teams if #2. has to happen and Notre Dame's feelings on this because of a need for a conf championship game.

B12 is making a heavy push to get ND in. ND's first choice is to go to the B12. ND doesn't give 2 spits about their natural rivalries with big 10 schools. Dodds made a very convincing sell.

  • The one thing that every single announcer, analyst, and expert agree on is that ND could go to any conference in the country. They are simply too valuable to not want in your conference. Given that situation, why on earth would ND choose the one conference that everyone is talking about being so bad that they might not make postseason playoffs? Not to mention the ACC just added 2 teams, makes less money, and are not their natural or geographical rivals.

To even bring it up as possible loses you all credibility, IMO.

This is the hot rumor on TaterNet right now...........has ND and FSU joining the Big 12 and Clemson staying in the ACC.

Agree. Paterno and Penn state were advocates of big 10 adding east Coast schools.

Their most played series are Pitt and syracuse with Maryland being another often played rival. Some history with bc, NC state and miami.

They'd make sense in the acc. Money may or may not make sense.

  • I for one hope they do not leave the ACC.. if they go to the BIG12 they will get destroyed and get rid of their Head Cheerleader..

No way that either ND or PSU goes to the ACC...That conference would add absolutely nothing to either program and would make it more difficult to recruit the typical midwest and northeast kids they both go after...

I was told by my friend in the Michigan football office that ND is not going anywhere, except under their terms...The Big 12 wants to add them, but ND has huge reservations about the power of the Texas schools in that conference...

The ACC knows they are headed for disaster if the lose FSU, Clemson and VT, and are reaching out to anyone who might keep them afloat.
