kinda of understand the 40 , but what about the rest of the drills. did he go to indy just to weigh in and get measured.

I guess the answer would be yes. Even Blackmon is running catching drills

I really don't understand why people are shocked or upset with Alshon..You guys really think that if he was capable at this very moment to run a sub 4.5 he wouldnt have ran? His agent is not stupid, and knows a lot more than any of us. They get a chance to see the times of his competition and he has a few weeks to work towards that number. There are a lot of intricacies to running the 40 that can shed a bit of time and now he has more time to master them over the next couple of weeks. These people know what they are doing...

Players doing this is not uncommon. We have no idea if this was the best choice or not; no idea at all.

  • He only needs to run the 40 at the pro day in front of the teams who want a wide receiver. Y'all sound like Lane Kiffen a bunch of ignorant people!

it is uncommon for players with something to prove

  • If you listen to his interview, you would know he hasn't run a timed 40 during his training. Why would he want his first timed 40 to be at the combine? It's not the way I would have trained, but he's got time to go work on his time alone now that they have seen him in the shape he can get into

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I am all out of bubble gum.

Not a big deal at all! Some of you "joe-schmoes" are trying to act like you are in the Draft business and know what is best for somebody and you really have no clue.

He will be a 1st round pick you can bet your ass on it. Blackmon height wasn't even 6'1" which was a huge shock to people. Broyles has a knee that needs a lot of rehab and he may never be the same.

Alshon will run at pro day... no big deal. He and the people around him know what they are doing as they have been in the business for a long time. PERIOD!

Alshon will not be a 1st round pick. Apparently he got some terrible advice or just made this bad decision on his own. Teams were already questioning his speed and work ethic and by him not competing in any events makes him look a lot worse. Blackmon didn't need to compete in anything since he's assured of being the 1st WR taken in the draft yet he still showed a great work ethic by at least competing in something today. It wouldn't surprise me to see Alshon slip all the way to the 3rd round. I hope he doesn't but I wouldn't be surprised.

dude. how can any of you know whether or not this is a mistake?

are any of you agents? do you work in nfl front offices?

have you ever been part of the combine and then draft process?

I will give you the answer you seek.

BIG Mistake because Alshon has question marks going into the draft. He has something to prove that Blackmon and Broyles do not. Every GM questions his speed and it is this fact alone that threatens to drop him into the second round as opposed to being the mid-first round guy that he should be. He had two chances to run - today and at Pro Day. Because he skipped today, he has relegated himself to one shot and one shot only. He runs well, he helps himself. He does not, he may drop even further. Furthermore, if you watched the combine this morning and the reactions of the announcers and experts when it was announced that he was not going to run, every single one of them agreed it was a mistake. These guys ARE part of the combine. If he runs today, then comes back and betters his time at pro day, it is a favorable impression. Right now, there are even more questions/doubts than before. Need any other proof?

What teams were questioning his work ethic?

Alshon must have gotten some bad advice from and undercover Clemson agent that his handling him - this has to be the only explanation.

Maybe he has an undisclosed injury and that is why he didn't run who knows.... But I know he will be a 1st round pick... have you guys forgetten about the DB's draped over him pulling his jersey down and him still catching the ball one handed! I promise you his 40 time had nothing to do with that.

He is a great route runner, and even better blocker, and the most unselfish WR in the draft. He will run a a good 40 time at the pro day and he will be a 1st rounder!

This is another example of Gamecock fans eating their own once again!

he will be at best the 4th WR taken, i think it is more likely the 6th but either way I don't see him as a 1st rounder anymore

Every team in the league was questioning his work ethic because of the physical shape he played in this year. It's been talked about for the last year so if you've cut on your tv to any sports related program I'm sure you've heard a mention of it sometime. Nobody is questioning his ability on the collegiate level but that doesn't mean too much to NFL scouts. That's one of the big things that the casual fan doesn't realize. As for your last comment, just because I'm realistic and not blinded by my Gamecock faith I'm eating my own? Come on man take your blinders off. I just hate that Alshon got some bad advice because it's gonna cost him dearly come draft day.

This post is wrong on so many levels.

Work ethic is a question mark because he weighed 230+ pounds. He's down to 216 now, but there's still a red flag. If you want to go another step further, NFL teams MAY question whether or not he's dedicated to being the best he can be. That's being the best athlete and best receiver he can be.

Not every agent is perfect. I'm not sure who his agent is? When the NFL Network analysts, who cover this yearly, question why Alshon isn't doing any drills, that right there speaks volumes to me.

As things stand today, Alshon Jeffery won't be a first round pick. I don't believe that I'm any less of a Gamecocks fan for saying it. There's too many red flags right now for a team to use a 1st round draft pick on Alshon.

Unless Alshon's ill or injured, this is bad decision. There's no logical reason not to atleast do the board jump and vertical jump. I'm confident saying that some NFL teams without this information will take a prospect off of their board.

lets not go that far, no one in the NFL will take him off their board, every team will take him when their pick if they think he is the best player available if they have a need at WR.
