A&M to the SEC official?

  • GAMCOK said...

Yep and were gonna get shafted as the league always does. First, they'll get the first home game. Then we'll drop KY or Vandy for them.

Oh well it is what it is but I think it's sucks for USC. No upside.... Only down. One mans opinion.

    agreed
IDK why anybody would like another tuff divisional game in the sched (free shoes)
i'd be fine with the east bringing in wake, maryland, ncsu,wv,duke etc, but i really would prefer they do nothing at all.

screw tamu (im already sick of seeing aTm or atm)

Short-sighted, IMO. All boats rise with the tide.

Maybe so, but just watch out, in a few years these greedy fat cats we will have 16 teams in the SEC and you'll look over and they will have realigned our division be the likes of BAMA, FSU, FU, UGA, Auburn, Tenn, Vandy, and us. Hope our boat doesn't get lost in the tide.

the descision makers finally decided to invest in winning and put the effort into it that is needed to compete.

The only question is...are we willing to invest in the things needed to attract those potential players...for years we didn't...now we are.

1st part I quoted, what exactly does that mean.

2nd part, no. We don't now. Coaches salaries are bad, recruiting budget the worst in the conference.

  • I've always been of the opinion that this state has enough talent to field a championship team. There just isn't enough talent to support two championship teams. Although the other SEC schools get the same increase, Clemson and UNC do not. The more distance we put between us and them the better (although I recognize UNC basketball is a cash cow). We're talking $30-50 million over the course of the contract. That can pay for a lot of improvements, coaches salaries, recruiting budget, etc (just for you BCM). :-)

Extend the lead on Clemson, improve our in state recruiting, win more games, extend our recruiting in NC, and build a team capable of winning the SECE in any year.

Now, we just need NC State to be the other team.

  • I really don't want to have to play 9 conference games a year now if we move to 14 teams. I hope they let us drop one of our 3 west games a year to stay at 8. Cause adding an extra SEC game to the schedule is not going to help anyone get the BCS Championship.

Very liitle was done to change the dynamics...ie build facilities..raise revenue. Everything was on the cheap..just so long as they could put fannies in the stands.

I think that is debatable. I see where your coming from. You have to admit we are light years from where we were in the salary dept. I think the EJ raise was a big departure from the way things used to go. I am sure others will be getting some change in their pockets soon.

Recruiting budget..is less than I wish it was but we are doing well with less right now. That is something that hopefully will grow as some of the projects are completed. Some of those schools like Tenn has to spend big dollars just to recruit a quality team.

I think the bottom line is we are spending money on the program. We can debate on what the priorities should be for our finite cash stream..but progress is being made and that is a break from our past...do you not agree?

    Absolutely.

There were folks opposed to us accepting an invite to the SEC 20 years ago for the same reasons,
thinking we should hold out for for the ACC and play an easier schedule with supposed "natural"
    rivals based on prior history.

I think you fail to see the potential of our program...Our program is not on the rise..just because of Spurrier. It is on the rise because the descision makers finally decided to invest in winning and put the effort into it that is needed to compete.

I do not want to blast you because alot of people have your same opinion about us. However, I do see it as a main cog in why we failed to achieve for so long.

The bottom line on who has capability to win and who does not..is location and association. We are located in an area that is abundant in potential football players. We are also a member of the SEC.

The only question is...are we willing to invest in the things needed to attract those potential players...for years we didn't...now we are.

I agree that we have potential and have had potential just needed the right decision makers in place. However, that doesn't negate the fact that every other program in our conference is in a rich recruiting area, dedicated to winning, and reaping the benefits of SEC money. Expansion will not only make it harder for us but for the other programs as well. At the same time it is more than likely we will have a harder time competing than FL, Bama, LSU, UGA, and even A&M. Think about the recruiting advantage A&M will have in TX now. It not only improves for the SEC but for them as well. A&M will have a much stronger in state presence. I don't have the negative attitude of the older Carolina generation but come on man; this will make our conference unnecessarily difficult.

The only upside to this situation is that the distance between clempson’s athletic program and ours will widen. Which is a huge upside.

And some people have better boats than ours even A&M. Do you think Vandy and UK will rise all that much? Not that we are on the same level as them but it is a valid argument. Programs will probably rise at different levels. We shall see though. I guess I'm the devil’s advocate in this thread.

Wow, gonna start calling you Mr. Sunshine.
You make it sound as if the SEC is accepting them for the express purpose of screwing Carolina.

It's all about money, prestige and recruiting advantages.

Superconferences are inevitable under the current paradigm. Texas a&m is a perfect addition to the west. Texas market revenues, and opens up better recruitment in one of the most talent rich states in the US.

With the right addition to the east, we might just end up being a perennial national top tier program for quite some time.

No they are not. Your entire post is made of of cliches repeated.

We might be the premiere conference? Check your facts again, we already are

That is nonsense. Kids from Texas are not going to come to USC or UGA just because a school from Texas is in our conference. Anymore than kids from Arkansas and Mississippi do already.
