Adam Mathews

  • He has a couple of good games throughout the year, but he looks like the player at the beginning, horrible. Ray sticks with him, for senior leadership blah blah, we have to get more production and less inning killers.

Maybe. Either way I'm just enjoying the ride right now. We can talk about this if Zona beats us.

What games have you been watching he dominated Clemson in our regional. Posters should think twice about posting certain things about players because you never know who is reading.

  • Maybe move him down some in the order. Idk. Vergasons been pretty hot so maybe move him up.

Do you honestly think Matthews would be happy with his hitting in the CWS himself? come on...we definitely earned this championship series and we are all happy to be there but be honest and he has to be honest with himself he has probably left atleast 20 runners on base and atleast 12 in scoring position in the CWS..most of the time with only 1 out too.

I agree with him being in there because the team does view him as a senior leader but he should be in the 8 or 9 spot with Vergy moving up to his spot

  • Matthews muat have naked pictures of Tanner somewhere (ha ha). Pankake also for that matter. Not sure what his on base % is but didn't Whittle say he was 1-18 until last night. I thought your leadoff hitter was supposed to be a little better than that. But Tanner is the man. Gotta be the best baseball coach in America. Let's go whip some Arizona ass.

  • What about that sliding catch he made last night. Sure a run scored on the tag but if he hadn't snagged it something worse could have happened.

nobody has said anything about his fielding or even taking him out of the lineup...just his hitting has been pretty bad....

  • He was asked about his slump in the press conference last night. Did anyone see his remarks?

No I do not think he was happy with his performance at the plate yesterday but we don't posters questioning Ray Tanner for having him in the lineup only because of senior leadership. I call that a cheap shot now if you want to say you believe he should be moved down in the batting order that's fine.

  • Leadership and defense are critical in Omaha...if you pull him who is the better alternative? I do agree with moving him down in the order. Same with pulling Pankake from the leadoff spot and moving him down too.

  • I don't think ANY of these kids should be criticized. They are ALL playing their hearts out. Yes, there may be slumps with any of them but they all deserve our support! We all want to win including every player out there! We should be behind them in good times as well as bad times!

If Matthews is reading it should come as no surprise to him that some posters believe he looked horrible at the plate last night.

That seems to be the logical move.

What about the 6 runners he left on base last night?

  • We can change his spot in the order, but we cannot take him out of the field. In this park, you need the best defensive outfielders you have.

In his defense, he did get a hit with a runner in scoring position on Thursday, but we didn't score. Also, he got a horrible 0-1 call last night on a pitch a foot inside that put him in a hole.

I've written him off before and he always comes back strong. He is in a real slump now, but he saved our butts against CU.

And, he had the game winning run yesterday by walking it in. We would not be in the CWS finals without him.

He deserves better than some of you.

    Typical football fans.

Your in the CWS, your facing the best pitchers in the country. How do you think our opponents batting avg's are against us.

Pathetic thread, just pathetic. He was the regional MVP, he was the MVP of the clempsun series. He made a diving catch last night that saved a run, then the game winning RBI.

  • Baseballs a funny game and I think a few of our guys are due to break out. To answer your question Mathews is playing bc he is one of our three best OFs. He hasn't hit as well this year but he is still our best option. He's due for a few multi hit games.

  • I laughed during the post game Mathews said he had left a small village on base in Omaha. Glad hes keeping a great attitude.

  • Pankake has been hitting it hard, just right at people. Finally got a couple hits last night, drove in a run. gotta get the ball in play at the leadoff spot and he's gotten the bat on the ball.

  • As much as I have thought our lineup could be better...I don't think now is the time to monkey with it!

  • Agreed we are in the Championship Series when at the beginning of the year we didnt know we would make the cws and we still have fans coaching from behind a computer screen.

Changing anything messes with a flow. These guys are here for a reason. Some of yall wont be so critical if matthews blasts one to win this thing for us.

Your too much of a sunshine pumper. The kid is in a bad slump and even you cant feel confident when he is at the plate. If anyone on our team is a weak link, its him, bottom line. Yes his seniority helps and no one is questioning tanner but the kid is just playing horrible right now. Whats the harm in people saying he is just off his game at the moment. Great walk by Matthews but three times with the bases loaded in the CWS calls for a bit more production IMO. Once again like everyone has stated if you ask him if he is satisfied he would give you a big HELL NO. His batting is .238. If i was to tell you at the beginning of the year that he would bat that would you be happy? I would hope not...everyone needs to quit with the sunshine pumping and face facts, he is in a slump and until he gets out of it I have zero confidence in him right now. I hope to hell he proves me wrong and gets out of it but he is definitely not being productive what so ever. I love to look at the positives as much as everyone but it seems some people are naive to plain facts. He needs to step it up plain and simple.

No some of us want to have a good discussion. There is nothing wrong with having a discussion about things that could improve. It all depends on how you discuss these improvements. Do you say it with venom or say it because some of us have played the game before and have a little insight into where things stand.....
