Anatomy of a Clemson internet rumor.....

  • FWIW I only started a rumor that I started a rumor about Sammy Watkins. Nowhere on the internet, which is a pretty big place IMNSHO, can you post a link that I posted about Sammy Watkins. I have linked the ONLY place I have seen that rumor which is TOS MB. The OP of that thread, whoever he is, started what apparently is a worldwide rumor at this point. In a thread referencing that rumor on TBS later that night I jokingly said I started the rumor. I was immediately chastised by some of our fans, most of which have little or no sense of humor. The thing really took off though when some of the Clemson lurkers on this site (and there are dozens and dozens BTW) took that thread and ran over to Tigernet and started thread after thread calling me a "slimy guy" and "a known rumor starter."
    Just so we're clear if I wanted to start or perpetuate a rumor about Sammy Watkins and/or Clemson it wouldn't be a made up arrest it would be about his family living in a resort hotel that was paid for by a Clemson booster with ties to Brad Scott and Watkins mom. I would tweet that, and post that. But it's the offseason and I'll save that for August.
    To all you Clemson lurkers on the board, when you read this please start a couple threads on Tigernet about it. TIA

  • certainly appreciate any anxiety, baseless or not, that Taters feel, but I think if you insert yourself into the situation and say you started the rumor or it could have been you that did it, you are responsible for the bulk of the attention that brings

    Happens every week. I've heard Latt reinjured his knee, Alshon got busted for smoking pot, Garcia actually raped a girl and kicking him out of school was a coverup, etcetera. The latest is that the NCAA leaked out we are getting a 3 year bowl ban and our victories from the last 2 years will be taken.
    So what? If it's even mildly believable I flip over to TBS and if it's not here, it's not true.

  • The problem is that with some posts by some posters some readers sometimes have some problems knowing if what is said is real or not. So something that is very funny for some is not so funny to others and some people don't know if its funny or not.
    Hope that clears up some things.
