We are pleased to announce that starting tomorrow morning, Wes Mitchell will join the staff at TheBigSpur.com as a full-time reporter.
Mitchell previously was the publisher of GamecockAnthem.com on the Scout.com network and comes over with three years of experience working in the South Carolina market.
Whitte, Tony, WG and myself all have talked for a month about how excited we were to have an experienced individual join our team. We care only about you guys, the readers, and feel like this is an absolute upgrade/addition to our in terms of work ethic, commitment, talent and experience which equals to an upgrade in the value of your subscription and/or the time you spend reading our non-VIP content here.
Wes will have some team scoop and some recruiting notes first thing in the morning.
In other news, 247Sports hired Rivals.com Florida analyst Chris Nee to work on Noles247, our other Florida sites and sites throughout the network. When it came to Sunshine State prospects, I know Chris was all over it and frequently posted on Gamecock Central. This was a huge hire considering we hired Keith Niebuhr (Rivals Southeast analyst) and have another regional recruiting hire forthcoming. I have worked with Chris since we both were at Rivals and he fits our culture 100 percent in terms of work ethic, knowledge, honesty/integrity and drive.

I can not tell each of you how happy I am to have Wes (@WesMitchellSC) join our team. I am around South Carolina media literally almost every day and I have an incredible amount of respect for what he's done in covering the Gamecocks - both team and recruiting related content. Wes has had a little bit of help at GamecockAnthem.com but in many ways, he's been a one-man band. Coming over to our site will give him a much greater platform to show how truly talented he is in this market.
Like JC said, Wes has a tremendous work ethic and a drive to be great. It will not take long to see what he will add to this site. I know that each of you will be please from a football recruiting standpoint and a team coverage standpoint. Wes specializes in football and he'll spearhead a lot of our recruiting coverage but he'll play a big role at practices and games as well. He'll also have a hand in basketball and baseball but the majority of times you see his byline, a football story will follow.
We've been talking about this behind the scenes for a couple of weeks now and I am thrilled that August 1 is finally here. Like JC said, please share this news with your friends as we will continue to take this site to another level. Welcome, Wes!
