Antonio Allen

  • Congrats Antonio!

  • He will start by game 3. I am beyond shocked that he did not go by round 4. This was the most productive guy on our defense. Forced 7 turnovers this year.

This is one of the most sure tacklers in the country, you cannot be a better open field tackler than him, its not possible.
He was also our best cover guy, I would say he was tied with Gilmore for that honor. Allen was better at baiting the QB in zone, Gilmore was a tad better in press man.

This is a guy who can play a few positions. Both Johnson and Ward have said repeatedly that he has NFL corner skills.
He could play nickel, corner, or either safety position. I think he is starting at a safety spot by game 3. Weren't the Jets depleted there anyways?

What can't he do Steve lol

  • Did he go to the Jets. I got tired of seeing him as Kiper's 2nd best player left on the board only to be passed over by the 2nd team all mountain West safety among others.

  • I see from other posts now. NM

  • Down right stupid the guys who were taken before Allen. He was roundly considered to have had the best week at the SR Bowl of any safety prospect and wound up with the most tackles for the South team. Absolutely has a nose for the ball. I can't stand the fact that the Jets got him. Kills me.

  • He needs to prove he can cover in space. His 40 was 4.67 at the combine which isn't good, but not terrible for a safety. At worst I believe he will make the Jets on ST alone. I know Ryan likes hitters, and AA is definitely that, but the coverage issue hopefully will get worked out as he becomes more familiar with the posittion. He's too good a football player not to be in the NFL.

  • What position will he play. Spur is a great position for college tweeners but it doesn't really exist in the NFL.

I would think SS. He's a little too small to play OLB, especially in a 3-4.
