Any Questions about Michigan?

  • Hey guys, I'm a mod over on Wolverine247 and a current student at UM. Any of you are more than welcome to come on over to our site to discuss the matchup, but I thought I'd offer my services over here as well.

Really looking forward to the Outback Bowl, hopefully we can show up and keep the game close/competitive. Y'all have a great team and a great coach.

So if you have any questions about personnel, matchups, or anything to do with Michigan football, feel free to post them in here and I'll let you know everything you need to know about your next opponent.

Here's to a great time in Tampa, hopefully I meet some of you down there cheers

  • Best guess on the qb situation? I know Robinson has been dinged up but I'm curious as to your thoughts on how Borges will handle that if he's healthy.

  • Do you have any pics of hot Michigan chicks? We have rules here. Pics or GTFO.

I think you will see a lot of Devin Gardner under center. He is the most reliable thrower and has the best pocket presence. Our offense is most effective when Denard Robinson is in the slot or at RB and Devin Gardner is at QB. Especially after losing our starting RB Fitzgerald Toussaint to an ankle injury, we don't have a reliable RB threat. We need Denard to be that threat to stand any chance against your DL.

  • Dennard Robinson is now your starting RB right? Seems to be he may be in trouble against our DL.

I would imagine they will try to get him in space?

Where do you feel UM matches up best with SC?

    whats yalls defense like?

    Very inconsistent.

Up front, we don't generate much of a pass rush. Our WDE Frank Clark is the best option as a pass rusher we have, but don't expect many sacks from our DL. For your running game, we usually do a great job stopping runs in the middle of our DL. NT Quinton Washington and DT William Campbell are both huge athletic guys in the interior, great at stopping the run.

Our strength is our LB unit, especially SAM Jake Ryan. He's a RS SO who is constantly flying all over the field. He makes great plays or great mistakes. MIKE Kenny Demens is great against the run, but bad in coverage. Same as WILL Desmond Morgan. If you have a solid TE, he'll be a matchup nightmare for us. None of our LBs are good in coverage and our CBs are too small to cover a TE.

In the backfield, if you're a statistics guy, you'll notice that we have the #1 passing defense in the country. This is not a good representation, given the fact that Air Force doesn't pass, Bama was beating us by so much that they just ran the ball for the last 3 quarters, and the Big Ten has no good QBs. Our CBs JT Floyd and Raymon Taylor get beat deep a lot but are pretty solid on short slant routes. Our safeties are two outstanding veterans in Jordan Kovacs and Thomas Gordon. They're both great in run stopping, especially Kovacs. He's our best tackler and a great cover man as well.

Overall, we're an inconsistent group that can get beaten by the passing game pretty easily.

We don't like Quinton Washington in these parts.

Yes he is, because he cannot grip the ball well enough to throw it.

He is still very turnover-prone, so expect at least a fumble out of him. He'll take some snaps, take some handoffs, and catch some screen passes. We try to use him in every way possible.

And I feel like our defense can potentially stop your running game without Lattimore, but I'm not totally sure if we can move the ball on your defense. Your DL against our OL is the biggest mismatch IMO. Another good thing for Michigan is the elusiveness of Devin Gardner when he's our QB. I think your DL will get a lot of pressure on him but he'll be able to evade it and create good results out of a broken play.

Oh crap forgot about that, sorry! I think your DL is good enough without him..

  • duck, dont take this the wrong way but we've won close to a full seasons worth of games in 2 without lattimore. He's missed, but we have managed just fine...I've heard that talking point all season (twice) and it's never been "right". In my opinion, the real match up on that side of the ball is how will your LB's do with our TE's and keeping whoever (shaw or thompson) in the backfield/out of sync.

If the TE's get going it wont matter too much of who is in the back field...they'll move with the TE's and some form of crease will be there. On the flip, if the LB's play very solidly, it makes spurrier and co's job that much harder.

Granted USC will open as a slight fave, but you and I both know you're guys are coming not to just "hopefully show up and keep the game close/competitive", but to win.

Hell, you sound like me when I talk to opposing fans at a game. biggrin

When did Q Washington become a NT? He was recruited as an O Lineman. And also JT Floyd is from SC. Tell me a little about both of their careers and how they have played... Thanks... And as for your QB being elusive I can't imagine him being anymore elusive than Dennard.. SEC speed is different than what you guys are use toas you saw against Bama.

  • Thanks Duck. What's the general consensus on the job Hoke is doing so far? From an outside perspective, I wonder how much he has been handcuffed by Robinson at QB. As dynamic as he is, it seems the coaches have been kinda forced with playing him at QB that last couple years.

The rug really tied the room together, did it not?
