Anyone that wouldnt take Stallings...

  • Is an idiot. Watch them play. I've heard everything from it took him 6 years to win at Vandy to he looks like Kevin from the office. Though the latter may be true, this team is night and day better than us. Even if they lose to Wisconsin, I will take a coach that has brought his team to the tourney the last three years than some wannabe at Harvard or Kansas St. I get the Marshall hype and I want him too but Stallings is a proven winner at freakin' Vandy of all places. If Marshall chooses to stay in Kansas than Stallings is clearly the next best choice....even if Steve Miller cries about it.

  • Im with you on Amaker. Wannabe at Kansas st. Here is that wannabe's record:
    2007–2008 Kansas State 21–12 10–6 3rd NCAA 2nd Round
    2008–2009 Kansas State 22–12 9–7 T–4th NIT 2nd Round
    2009–2010 Kansas State 29–8 11–5 T–2nd NCAA Elite Eight
    2010–2011 Kansas State 23–11 10–6 T–3rd NCAA 3rd Round
    2011–2012 Kansas State 21–9 10–8 5th
    Kansas State: 114–51 49–31
    Total: 114–51

Twenty wins each yr he has EVER coached. Stallings won 3 SEC games his sixth year. Your a little excited watching Vandy play, but Martin is the better coach.

you keep saying his sixth year but it was his fourth. fyi. if you don't like him, fine, but at least get your information correct.

but I agree with op. I think he would do well here.

  • Did not agree with his coaching at the end of this one. Zone D when you are trailing with 30 sec left and they have been bombing away? Not very smart.\

What? He's already winning in the SEC, your comment makes no sense.

  • Stallings is a great coach, but he is just a steady eddie kind of a guy. I just wonder if he would be able to recruit and have the it factor we will need to build a program at South Carolina. George Felton had it, Eddie Fogler had it, Just that positive vibe, like Spurrier, Staley, Tanner. Maybe I am wrong but it is just needed.

Your right, my bad. He went .500 in his sixth year, 20-14 overall. Worse than Frank Martin did in his first year EVER as a head coach.
If he has the same results here that he did at vandy, he would be fired in his fourth year. In his first four years he won: 19, then 15, then 17, then 11 games. The fans would be pitching an absolute fit by then. You know that, we all know that. He would be in over his head here.

So you're saying the issue IS the fans, and that patience is what they lack.

I'm not sure Martin is a realistic candidate. I'd be happy with him as well. But as for Stallings, you can't just look at his first four years in Vanderbilt and say he'll do the same thing here. And it makes no sense to say he would be in over his head - he's been successful in the SEC for years, he's not some mid-major coach riding a hot streak.

The post said anyone who wouldn't take Stallings over Amaker or Martin is an idiot. I would much rather have Stallings than Amaker. But I guess I am an idiot, because I would rather have Martin. I think maybe people are falling in love with Stallings because he said maybe he would be interested. Otherwise, I don't think his name would be very high on any fans list.

Well at least we can all agree that we don't want Amaker. As far as Martin or Stallings, both have impressive resumes and I'd be happy with either one - I've just seen Stallings' teams play more and I think they've always been well-coached.

Not a Horn enthusiast. I just support our coaches. I stated that I thought a change was the right thing to do at the end of the year.
I just would not be very excited about Stallings. I think we could do much better.

    Fwiw, I upvoted this

    LilJerySeinfeld

  • Stallings isn't the right guy for this job. Soft defenses. Also they will suck again next year. He reeks of past hires. Would be way down the list. Hyman too smart make this hire.

  • We may as well just rip the seats out of CLA and make it an indoor practice facility for football according to all the experts on here. Really sad you have some who have to reply to every thread and poke a hole in every thought on here.

    gamecocks28

  • I just look at history. Stallings mixes some bad yrs in with the good yrs. Martin mixes some great yrs in with the very good yrs. Marshall takes a year or two to build, then never has a bad yr again. I only have history to go by, and if Stallings had bad yrs at Vandy, he will have a higher percentage of bad yrs here. I don't think the fans would be very tolerant of that. Think about the Odom era. Odom was 240-132 at Wake. Stallings is 261-158 at Vandy.

The rebuilding years would be Stallings downfall at USC. We need a coach with a sound defensive plan, and an offensive system.

  • True but again based on all I read here from the experts nobody is coming here whether we pay 2m or 5m per year, and USC is the most rancid bb job in the world
