Are Gamecock and Clemson fans obsessed with

  • each other?

On any given day, 1/3 of the PPG's front page (besides pinned threads) are about Clemson.

I don't visit their site but have seen other posts where they can't keep our name out der mouff.

So I pulled a steve miller and decided to spend 15 minutes of my time researching. I checked out all SEC 247 sites. No other school in the SEC had more than 1 post about their rival on their front page. Most didn't have a single thread.

Not a troll, don't care about upvotes/downvotes. Just making an observation.

  • I think it's Probsbly cause we're one of only 3 sec teams who's chief rival is in-state (AU-UA, UF-FSU). UGA's main rival is UF, I don't even know who LSU considers their rival, UT's is probably uga or uf.

That and I think both of our fan bases think our schools are more relevant nationally than we actually are so we pump up everything the other does. I think we're becoming more relevant, but most people are taking a wait and see approach with USC this year.

Ps- ole miss and miss st doesn't count because they both suck.

  • It's true. But, what's so bad about that. The passion for football in this state is greater than most all others save Alabama, Texas. Heck, I think we surpass GA, Fl. Since there are two BCS teams in this state (Not sure clem is actually BCS quality after 70-33) we have to try to diminish each other to try to impress recruits. It's just human nature.

Oh and BTW DNcC. you started another thread about clem. LOL!

  • It is true. I def read tigernet to see whats going on, i never post though. I think the reason it is like this is bc of the history. We have been pounded on in the past so gamecock fans want to make them feel like we have for years. On the other side, clemson cant realize or handle the fact that we have leveled the playing field.

They will play the overall record card for years so get used to it. The reality though is that right now we have everything they want: good conference, money, exposure, better coaches, results, facilities. When we the last time you heard espn say something positive about clemson?

  • I've been observing what you're talking about over many years now, both on this site and previously on TOS.

What I've noticed is there are many periods where there are virtually zero posts about the taters on our sites and there are times when there are many. It all depends on what's going on at the time.

Right now it's about the possibility of conference realignments. Posts about the taters pick up when a player gets in trouble, when one of us loses a game. etc. It varies tremendously throughout the year.

I used to be a "regular" on the tater board on TOS 'till I got blacklisted a few years ago. Although it varies tremendously, depending on what's going on at the time but I've noticed over the years that overall they obsess more about us on a day-to-day basis than we do about them. Others may have a different opinion but that has been my overall observation based on maybe eight or so years of almost daily visits to these message boards.

Personally I see nothing wrong with keeping close tabs on them as they are our in-state rivals.

My thought exactly! Nothing wrong with our passion.

  • Some are. And it's annoying as hell. Why are there 14 different threads speculating on whether or not the gay ass taters are going to the Big 12 or not? Who cares?

  • I also think that it's due to the fact that most of us have to deal with taters in our everyday lives, whether it be work, school, family, etc. The fact that the state of south carolina is relatively small, and that most people align themselves with one of the two major universities, the rivalry is encountered on an everyday basis. That's somewhat unique to rivalries like ours, ALA-AU, etc. Rivalries like GA-FLA, OSU-UM, UT-OU, etc. probably don't encounter each others fans near as often. I love our rivalry, and jump on any chance I can to mash a tater.

  • During rivalry week in a recent year the announcers talked about how heated our rivalry is, but that few people outside of our state know about it. That ranked it as one of the top rivalries because of the hatred the two schools have for each other.

  • I don't know about the rest of ya'll, but i personally can't stand any of those inbred assclowns and wish their stadium would fall into a huge sink-hole....

  • There is just too much fun to be had our end between the NCAA "hammer", Watkins arrest, and possible conference realignment. The jokes write themselves.

  • I check this site for Gamecock news from the analyst and Clemson misfortune from the posters.

  • I think a underlying ingredient here is the size of the state. There is not enough top talent to support two winning programs. I would hate Clemson regaurdless...but this fact makes the hate and hope for bad fortune...much more intense.

There can be only one.....death to Clemson and the ACC.

That is it in a nutshell.
Add in a couple of other factors:
-- No professional or other D-1A programs in the state.
-- No region of the state, or even any city, is 100% either Clemson or Carolina.
-- Clemson winning 3/4 of the games between 1976-2005 allowed their fans to become unbearably arrogant, prompting Gamecock fans to develop an obsessive dislike of them. Now that the shoe is on the foot, Clemson fans have developed an obsessive fear that they will have endure the same crap they were used to dishing out.

Still, I wish more fans paid more attention to the SEC. I hate Clemson with every fiber of my being, but happenings in Athens and Gainesville mean just as much to us, if not more, than anything at Clemson.
