  • It would be a 180... offense changing to defense.

  • Steve Sarkisian is a name I'm hearing from my friends in Arkansas, also Josh McDaniel is another name.

  • Arky fans arent as in love with Malzahn as you would think. Some rumor about when he left to go to Auburn he helped arrange the transfers of two other Arky players to other schools. One of those guys being Mitch Mustain

Right, from what I've read Malzahn was the high school coach of Mustain and a WR that both committed to Arkansas. Malzahn was then hired by Houston Nutt to be the OC at Arky. At some point in the season, Nutt took some of the offensive control away from Malzahn which resulted in Malzahn either resigning or being fired. He then supposedly encouraged Mustain and the WR to transfer.

Yeah, Malzahn is a very polarizing figure over there for a variety of reasons. That may change if he wins big at Arky State...Hugh Freeze left some talent there, and Dyer can play in 2013.

I think Malzahn has been proven correct if he told them to transfer given what a mess Nutt has been. If Nutt lied to Malzahn, why would he tell a kid he knows and cares about to stick around?

I agree Malzahn did the right thing. I just think Arkansas fans don't see it that way.

  • Kirby Smart doesnt even coach that much....Nick Saban is the real defensive coordinator at Bama...would just be like Florida hiring Muschamp IMO...

Except for the fact that Muschamp has been a successful DC for many years at different programs.

  • What does Muschamp and Florida have to do with anything? Muschamp had been running his own defenses for years. He left Saban after 1 year in Miami.

Being a DC and a head coach are 2 different things...

That has nothing to do with the point that was made...

Your original implication was that Smart wouldn't do much because he hadn't done anything without Saban, and that Saban was basically holding his hand.

Muschamp was on his own in Auburn and in Texas, sans Saban. He wasn't relying on Saban to do anything for him. In fact, he spent 3 years with Saban and only 2 as his DC. There is substantial evidence that Muschamp is a capable DC without Saban's help. Albeit, the point you were trying to make, that Smart may not do well outside of Saban's tutelage certainly has merit. Your analogy was just flawed.
