BREAKING NEWS: Hampton gets another chance

  • Regardless of what any coach, teammate, fan thinks. Regardless of the reason SOS made this decision. It is an opportunity. One that he needs badly as a student/athlete. Let's hope this ends out well for everyone. Especially Victor. He needs this opportunity more than any of the before mentioned need him. So, please Victor...prove yourself.

So, what is the more important outcome here- being concerned about "looking silly" or handling the situation in an appropriate manner?

That is not at all what I meant. I've read through some of the posts and maybe this was what the staff was hoping would happen. I pull for every player to make it and to take advanage of what is given to them. I hope it all works out for everyone involved.

who cares what they say?...spurrier didn't lose the team giving garcia chances 1-4, did he? hell no, he won the sec east and signed the top player in the country...tell them to go back to purple pants recruiting fairyland.

That hack station up there never covers anything negative that happens at Clempson because they "don't have all the facts ". Funny they always have ALL the facts right away on anything at USC . They are just in total meltdown up there. Fell sorry for them . NOT!

  • They need to keep the boy out of Darlington and away from the riff raffs he ran with there. You hang around sh*t, you smell like sh*t.

To me the key to this is "with his parents". You get mom and dad on your side and willing to help keep him accountable and that will make a huge difference.

his parents have raised him to be the man he is so far.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I am all out of bubble gum.

They tried but Hampton put it out there via twitter, so they responded when asked. What should have they done?

I didn't realize he was the one that released the info first until JC responded to my post. Since I now know exactly how it went down I think the staff did an excellent job in handling the situation.

Either that, or the coaches felt he needed us badly.

So true. Like most things in life, it's a twoway street.

  • IMO, this has only a small bit to do with "football".

As with Garcia and others, what SCAR is building is a culture of responsibility and accountability.

Its easy to kick a kid out but I think keeping kids in an environment conducive to self-betterment will pay dividends down the road. If he were allowed to transfer to some softy program and be allowed to simply "get by", he'd be a headcase for years to come.

Pix of a Passer/King angelfish (saltwater). Got him as a 1.5inch baby. Now, 12 years later, 14inch adult.

Nice post cd. Well stated comment about USC building a culture of responsibility and accountability. The coaching staff seems to be going to great lengths to help these young men develop into responsible citizens--like you said, perhaps the easy thing to do would be to kick him off the team. Ultimately, the type of men they become is what's most important because probably only about 5-10% of them will make it to the NFL. Not sure of the actual percentage, but the bottom line is, if any of these young men do "go bad," it won't be because our coaches didn't care.

Great post...you hit the nail on the head.

It's time that coaches care as much about building great "men" as they do building great "players".

Hats off to SOS and company for having the guts to give it another go....
