South Carolina may have lost a member of the 2012 class but could gain a couple more soon. Get the latest from the recruiting trail on Tyrone Haughton, Sheldon Jeter and more!

  • Who else is going to leave?

    a7xrox

  • WG.......any new news on whether Angel Rodriquez is still a possibility to transfer in?

  • I hate to see players leave once they are in the program, but I hope we have at least 2 scholarships for 2013, and that we get everyone our coaches want for 2012.

    Jelsik Sturm

  • Does anyone know Jeter's girlfriend? Is there anything we can do to get her here? That would certainly seal the deal, I would think. Just sayin'.....

Necessary evil at a lot of schools in a lot of sports.

I agree we need at least 2 scholarships for 2013.

  • It is going to be an interesting next little while for us basketball junkies. More players leaving. More players coming in. It will be interesting to see exactly who is going to be on the team next year. About my only concern is that we will have too many freshmen next year and bad class balance. But that balance could be somewhat corrected by redshirting a couple of guys.

I want Thornwell and Kris Jenkins for 2013. I think our coaches probably want them as well. If we got them, it would be big.

  • I know next to nothing about basketball recruiting so I generally stay completely out of the discussion. However, I wasn't impressed by what I read about Haughton. I generally don't pay any attention to star ratings, but I do look at offers. For a guy with his size, his offer sheet wasn't impressive. All that being said, I will support him if he's on our roster and I won't miss him if he's not. I acknowledge my ignorance and I will accept whatever Martin thinks is best.

The last little snippet about other roster changes was something I had expected to hear for quite a while. We have 2 or 3 others on the roster right now who would not be assets to any successful program.

We have GOT to go all out for Thornwell. I was talking to Tim Whipple about Thornwell and Peake also. He said those two, along with Dozier are the best we've had in SC since Allen, McKie, Garnett, and O'Neal. He said Thornwell could be a Great college player, all-conference. But, he said Peake and Dozier are elite players that will have their choice of any schools in the country.

If we can get those three, we could be national title contenders. I think they would have one or two years to all play together. Wouldn't that be something.

Hmm haughton is the highest rated player and has the best offers of anyone in the class, which doesn't mean he can play...but anyway.

Begs the question: Are you really excited about the guy whose best offer was Duquense? Or Wichita state?

Moore has had offers from Va. Tech, Oregon, and USC. Hall had offers from some big schools. Chat signed with K-State. Kacinas was protected from other schools this past season. Philip didn't have many offers, but our coaches think he can play. Jeter has offers from Penn St., Wisconsin, Vanderbilt, and USC.

Back when people could recruit anyone they wanted his best offer was duquense and Cleveland state. Now that there are no players left to recruit he has an offer from a coach who has since been fired, a coach with seven scholarship players and Oregon.

I take it you are not impressed with Frank Martin. Not everyone is.

Some players have good senior years increasing the interest in them.

What do the two things have in common. I'm very hopeful about frank Martin.

He seems to be very focused on the bottom line and doing what it takes. Something we likely need to win.

No, not at all. I'm saying that the guys we are signing did not for the most part have good offers until they were the last guys in the bar at closing time.

Martin is doing what he has to do. Maybe one of these players will end up the mother of his children or something. It's a familiar story.

Anyways we got to field a roster and maybe these are diamonds.
