    I think we need to wait and see whether Martin actually signs some of these high profile guys before we start getting excited.

    The class he has put together at the last minute this year is not a particularly impressive haul and will not be rated anywhere near anyone's top 25 classes.

    We seem to be involved with a lot of interesting names in the following classes but Horn recruited a lot of big names too. Doesn't really matter if you cannot sign and enroll them.

    I do think Martin will probably sign a few high profile guys and the coaching will be better and we will have a tougher and more successful team. But so far, he hasn't really made a splash recruiting wise. Look forward to that first one.

    Hopefully, it will be Thornwell if he doesn't earn his intended UK/UNC offer from his prep school adventure.

    Silly post, what did you expect this cycle? 2013 and 14 is what we need to judge.

    I didn't expect anything. I'm also not blown away by what we signed like some seem to be. But I'm not making any judgment at all, I'm explicitly reserving it.

    So, I think your Post is silly as and well as uncomprehending.

    On paper, the guys Martin is bringing in are at best the same that Horn brought in. Now, I am sure he will teach them much better, and their play will result in better results, but Horn brought in a few top-100 players.

    Horn also brought in very thin, athletic guys, that were very raw offenseively. Martin has brought in heavier guys that appear better suited for SEC physical play. But as far as rankings go, they are not as highly rated as most of Horn's guys.

    Steve, there is no Harris, Gill, Slawson, or Ellington. There is a maybe a Leonard (Hall). I've heard Minda is a lights out shooter but hope he has a quick release because he'll have much quicker defenders on him. I don't mean to minimize Martin's accomplishment at signing 4 and maybe 5 guys in the late signing period because it is amazing. He has a great reputation and great contacts and I think given time, he will build a fine program for us. Losing Harris and Gill will set us back pretty hard, though. Depending on the quality of the 2013 class, we're 3 to 4 years from turning the corner on respectability.

  • Agreed with Steve and VBC regarding current class quality...I for one however, did not think this class could have been recruited by many new coaches in such short order...as such I think it bodes well for the future. Real question was out of curiosity about Horn's current and future status

I always hope for the best for our recruits, but I have often been disappointed with what they can do in real games. Speaking for myself, I'm going to wait and see how these recruits actually do when they play for us. I doubt our coaches would have signed them if they didn't think they were capable of competing in the SEC. I'm not saying that our coaches expect any of them to be All-SEC, but I doubt they are just signing warm bodies.

    I think all of these kids will develop into useful players but I don't expect much from them as freshmen. The talent level of the SEC is amazing. The guys we signed have never seen anything like it. Be certain there's a huge learning curve and a huge adjustment to the speed and athleticism for all but the very best high school kids. From the little bit of film available on Hall and Phillip, both those guys shoot threes from the chest. The recovery speed of cat quick SEC guards will make it exrtremely difficult for those guys to get open shots. If Hall had a deadly jumper from behind the arch he would have been swarmed with offers from top schools regardless of his grades. But Martin needed bodies, so he made what I think will be a good gamble on a prospect.
