  • Whittle,
Thanks for the loads of information. Regarding LJ Peak, are we way behind others here? What are our chances?

    TIA.

  • Bill,

Is it safe to think that the status of Carrera, Hall, and Phillip will be known by the time fall classes start at USC?

  • I understand our current situation with recruits, but it is not one that I enjoy. It is my hope that in the future, we will be able to sign recruits whose academic standing is better known and more predictable in the November signing period. I would like to have everyone who is going to be on the team in the fall in both sessions of summer school.

  • Classes begin August 23. That is later than in the recent past. So there is still time before we need to be too concerned.Obviously they won't be able to come in until fall classes start.

If that's going to be the case, we have two options: first, we can win a few championships so we can join Duke, UNC, and Kansas is recruiting only the elite players who always seem to be eligible, or second, you need to pay a visit to all these kids while they are in junior high when they decide they are going to play in the NBA so they don't have to study.

If these kids had the grades they wouldn't have been unsigned. Just involves having full time to recruit kids and not picking from the bottom of the barrel. There is a reason why the guys we ended up signing were still around.

It isn't something that must be repeated.

I wasn't passing judgement about our program/coaches. I was just discussing one of the big problems with young basketball players today. There is no such thing as reality. They all think they are Kobe.

If we continue to recruit as well as Horn recruited before his credibility was undermined from within, we will build a strongly competitive, self rejuvenating program with quality student athletes who generally stay for all four years of their eligibility. Maybe there won't be many one and doners but I'd be happy to settle for the kind of program Vandy has.

I realize that we are going after some guys with academic problems because we need players for this coming season. But I hope and expect that situation will change in time. Probably for the 2013 class.

We all want to go to the NCAA regularly. The challenge for our coaches is to recruit well enough to get us there before we get there. After we win a few NCAA games, recruiting should get better.
