  • don't you have to touch the rim for it to be a dunk? That was just an overhand layup.

That usually applies to a dunk.

how was this not a dunk? Bc he didn't hang from the rim?

    This.

He had 3 or 4 fingers on the rim. He just didn't hang on it because Perk was underneath him. People just like to hate on the NBA anyway they can these days.

I stand corrected. I saw it briefly on mike and mike this morning passing through the living room. I guess it's a dunk... and according to dictionary.com it certainly is.

I'm just old school with basketball. If the rules were actually enforced, the game would end in a 0-0 tie.

No because he threw the ball in the basket and then his fingernail grazed the rim.

Kendrick Perkins would admit it was a dunk. Maybe if Blake wasnt pushed away from the basket mid-air he could have put more fingers on the rim.

  • The interwebz has gone crazy with this clip. I'm one of the ones who doesn't really understand why. Nice play and all, but it doesn't seem much more impressive than a million other moves to the rim I've seen before.

  • The best dunk ever was this one by Vince Carter...The best part of it is the faces and reaction of his team mates...Note that Weiss was drafted by the Knicks (never made it over) and is 7'2"

I can watch the dunks and the AND 1 stuff all day long...love showmanship in basketball...much rather the alley oop over the bounce pass, the dunk over the backboard tap, full court pressure over the 2-1-2, a guy who is just draining from 3 over the 15 footer...

And that is why basketball is going down the sh**ter.

Many guys dunk the ball with only fingers grazing the rim. Happens all the time.

Curious, do you count this as a dunk? Carters hand never touches the rim and his essentially throws the ball through the hoop.

The guy was a whole 5'6" or something of that nature. AND he had no idea it was coming. I hope Lebron tries that again and the next guy clips his legs and he lands flat on his face. Coolest play in the NBA this year is Rudy Fernandez' tip at the buzzer a couple of nights ago.

That doesn't make it unimpressive. James wasn't preparing to jump over someone, but still jumped high enough.

  • I just don't get into the NBA anymore. It's all about the show, just like the WWE. It's becoming more of an individual sport instead of a team sport. Kind of sad. JMHO...

Who says it is going down the "sh**ter". I think their ratings last year were the highest since the Jordan era.

he's talking about the sport itself, not the ratings. I tend to agree. Fundamentals are a has been.

Umm, yes. The rim comes down about 4 inches, so something hit the rim with a significant amount of force. Not just a little fingernail graze like Griffin's.

You really want to watch that?

All you basketball purists in this thread just don't like basketball. The reasons point totals today are lower than they used to be is because defense is so much better than it was thirty years ago.

would I like to watch the game called with rules that high school players have to follow??...why, Yes I would!!

Todays version of pro basketball is garbage. The reason point totals are down is that the athletes are much better and 30 yearrs ago, you could not hand check and mug guys. It was actually created as a non-contact sport..... 30 years ago most of todays players would not make it to half time before they would have fouled out. Defense is not better, nothing is better or bigger except the highlite real and the ego's.

then what about this one? Only the very tips of his fingers touch the rim.... No grabbing the rim, no hanging, no rim jerking downward. Griffins dunks was just that... a dunk. And you'd be hard pressed to find an NBA player that would say otherwise.
