There really isn't a single specific group or list of coaching-type hires you could make in which the successful hires outweigh the unsuccessful hires, that's just that nature of coaching.

"BCS" only refers to football. It's not applicable to basketball. I know you are talking about size, but Seton Hall would be considered a BCS team because they play in the Big East and they are smaller than Witchita State and have not had the same success.
Gregg Marshall was my first choice because he is a South Carolina guy, he has put in the hard work to build his programs and his programs are very good. He reminds me a lot of Tom Crean at Indiana in how he goes about things and he understands the old tradition of South Carolina Basketball.
With that being said, I am tickled garnet if Frank Martin becomes our head coach.
All this arguement about Marshall being the "hot name like Horn" or that he "lacks experience at a high level" is silly. None of us started our jobs at the top. We worked our way up from the bottom. Marshall has had success everywhere he has gone. Everywhere. If he wasn't called, shame on us. If he was and we couldn't work out a deal, so what?
Martin is the safer higher because he went with a mid major last time and I think our fans have a bad perception of that. Martin is coaching at a "BCS School" or whatever you want to call K-State and that makes him a more attractive choice. We should all be congratulating ourselves when tomorrow comes and Martin's name is on the dotted line. Not bickering

If I remember correctly JC posted on two (2) different threads that Marshall could have the job (USC) if he wanted it. Why do you think we didn't make overtures to Marshall?

Six years, just under $1.75 mil plus a $350,000 buyout to Wichita St.. I guarantee that the total deal with Martin, if it's completed will be more. Which BTW might be fine because Martin is a great choice. But the argument that we didn't hire Marshall because he wanted to much is bogus.
But again, don't take my word for it.

Pitino was HC of the New York Knicks prior to Kentucky.
