Brandon Shell

  • He looked like an offensive tackle. He also played pretty well. I think he accidentally got under Clowney's face mask and roughed him up a little bit. Hopefully he will do that (and not get called for a penalty) vs a couple of opponents this year. Clowney didn't look like he was going 100% vs Shell on every play, probably by design to avoid injuries. But I was impressed with the way Shell played vs Clowney when they did square up.

Having said all of that, he is just a freshman and will get beat some this year, as all freshmen tackles do. But he looks to be our best OT prospect since Travelle Wharton.

  • He did neutralize Clowney on several occasions, even dominated him some, but he also looked like he was holding a good bit(not sure if this matters in the SEC). Hopefully he won't have to play much this year.

  • Shell is almost sure to be starting LT barring any injuries or unforeseen development.

I really like our OT depth going forward. Shell, Matulis, Gibson, Stadnick, Robinson. Five guys that are all freshmen or sophomores and that I think could contribute down the line. My guess is maybe one or two of them get moved inside to guard at some point because that a lot of talent and only two tackles can play.

I also think Stadnick will get redshirted to give him a year of separation and to let him recover from his injury.

  • Don't know if you guys saw it but Ward said that Clowney and Shell had a "roomate pact". Apparently they agreed not to do certain things so neither would outperform the other when they were matched up. Thought that was funny.

Heard that also. +1 Also no blitzing by the Dee. Very vanilla.

Is this serious? Can't be. If it is, it's funny, but I don't like it at all.

The tackle depth is very promising, don't forget Kyle Harris at center also, could spell Johnson more than just a bit or let him move over to guard to give Cann or Patrick a breather, he looked good snapping the ball today - understand he has a bit of a nasty streak as well.

was kyle harris at center today? I cant remember if he was, but there were a lot of snap issues today.

Yeah, RD, #70 I think, agreed some issues w/ snaps, happened during last season as well, at least early w/ Garcia, I thought he looked good getting to the second level a couple of times to get a piece of a linebacker, looked good on a couple of double teams on Jerideau, also noticed Kenny Davis in some beside him as well, they seemed to work OK together.

I don't blame the DL or Clowney for taking a lot of plays off there is no reward for the effort. They can't hit the QB and get a sack that is what they do. It has to take the fun out of it.

the first play where Clowney was on D and made the tackle from behind he was movin fast and hit the RB hard. That was a nice play.

  • Ward said it on the ESPN broadcast. He also said he wasn't overly happy with Clowney this Spring or this game. He said it was his job to have him ready for talk Saturdays and he would be. Spring games are a total joke. I like Holtz`s idea of playing another team but don't know if you'd play your best guys in that either. So it is what it is and means nothing in the grand scheme if things

Actually Spurrier said he held him back so the QB's could get some passes off.

Actually, I watched him and he went inside then basically stood up and let himself be blocked on a number of occasions. He wasn't going full tilt.

I have no problem with that. Glad he wasn't.
