Braves followers, or even general baseball fans:

  • Did you see Hernandez pitch/blow/give away the game against the Nats yesterday? I simply don't like him in long relief. He throws all junk, no speed and he seemingly leaves stuff out over the plate and right in the bread basket even when he's working good counts: 1-2, 0-2. With all the arms we have, can't imagine that one of the young guys fighting for a starting position can't do long/middle relief.

  • livan is a bum. freddy seems to like him due to their history

  • He's simply not a reliever. He doesn't have the mindset or control/stuff for it. If they're going to use him, give him a few starts in Minor's spot in the rotation and see if he can be a short-term upgrade there while Minor attempts to get his problems fixed. He can't perform any worse than Minor has.

  • He's garbage... let him go and send minor down. Bring up Redmond/Teheran and Gearrin. Having Chipper, Freddie and McCann get healthy would definitely help.

I was shocked last night when they said he was 37. I thought he was at least in his mid-40s. I'm still haunted by the strike zone Eric Gregg gave him in the 97 NLCS. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mR3eK5gCChM

  • I was at the game, and I think the whole stadium felt he shouldn't of been there. The boo birds were definitely out.

Hernandez, who is really 47 years old, is at best a "starter" not a reliever ....however, with him or without him, "Bravos" lose last night. Problem was who was on the Nat's mound, not Brave's......New sheriff in town, in case you haven't noticed. Might as well bring up all those young arms so you can keep the Phillies off our back....muchas gracias.

Probably will once Moylan comes back to the pen. Not worried at this point. Every team loses 50, and wins 50. It's what you do the other 62 games that matter.

I would wholeheartedly support that, but it appears they want to limit his innings.

Moylan is and has always been a disaster. I cringe every time they run him out there.

You can't win a game when you only get 3 hits. stir

Actually, the Cocks beat Bama this year getting only one hit.

Haha no. Durbin, Hernandez, etc. are all garbage. Venters has been hit or miss. Moylans career ERA is 2.60...I'll gladly welcome him back.

  • ERA for a reliever doesn't necessarily tell the story b/c it doesn't account for how many runs a pitcher gives up that aren't credited to him. I'm not lauding Durbin or Hernandez by any stretch of the imagination, but I can even begin to count the number of games where Moylan gave up a key hit or walked the first couple of batters he faced to moving runners along.

    From a Braves blog:

"Moylan has had two good seasons and a decent one. He threw a laughable 90 innings in 2007 to the tune of a 1.80 ERA and 3.97 FIP, but what made that season was an 8.6 BB%, which would prove to be his best. Ever since, it's obvious the 90-inning season set him back. He missed almost all of 2008 with Tommy John surgery. He came back in 2009 and posted a 2.84 ERA and 2.95 FIP in 73 innings, but his walk rate jumped to 11.3%. His innings decreased to 63.2 in 2010, and his walk rate increased again to 13.7% with a 4.30 FIP. Finally, injuries derailed his 2011 season, and a shoulder surgery leaves question marks this offseason...No team in Major League Baseball "needs" a 33-year-old middle reliever coming off shoulder surgery with increasing walk rates and decreasing innings pitched."
