  • Picking Georgia or Florida is predictable, but to suggest that The Fighting Derrick Dooley's will surpass us is just plain stupid.

Let me also add that I don't think Will Muschamp can coach his way out of a wet paper bag. Ron Zook 2.0, perhaps worse.

  • Will respond this way, I respect all of the broadcasters/commentators - especially those who played major college/NFL football, for the most part, they get it right. That said, before the Orange Bowl last year, Herbstreit predicted the folks from the upstate would win big over WVU. I gave up on believing movie critics 35+ years ago when one noted Animal House would be a flop, have taken the same approach w/ commentators since last year's Orange Bowl and all of the predictions about FSU early in the season. I guess he made the statement after Crowell was dismissed, to the other post, he really does swoon over QB's/

  • GD and all of the talking heads, are just tv filler. I could careless what him or anyone else says. It's why we play the games. I like flying under the radar. Let them talk up the other teams. Every year they jump on the same bandwagons and then look to jump off when the wheels fall off. They pick a darling (tcu, boise, vandy) while we go about our business.

  • Just curious, what are everyone's expectations for this season? We lost 3 1st round talents, and have our star rb coming back from major knee surgery. The coaches again are messing with a good thing by moving holloman. Plus our schedule is pretty hard with an opening game on the road, LSU on the road, and at Florida. 8, 9 wins this year is a great year with all we lost in my opinion.

I would like to at least equal last year's regular season record of 10-2, but I realize that it may not happen. I feel really good about the QB position, and I'm not worried about Lattimore. But Alshon Jefferey and Stephon Gilmore were two huge playmakers. I'm just crossing my fingers that we don't see too big a dropoff at their positions.

If we only win 8 or 9 games this year that would make it one of the most disappointing football seasons EVER. With the talent that we have and the talent on other teams in the east I do not see any reason to expect less than another 11 win season (we did it last year without Lattimore - the offense will only be better with him back).

They're just opinions, guys, from people paid and qualified to give them. While I'm surprised by his prediction, Gary Danielson is very good at what he does. That said, his take on things will likely be a minority opinion.

There is also a new group of coaches and Ellis is gone. Anytime you mess with a successful recipe things can change. I'm hoping that the return of Lattimore will be the difference and we still win 10 games.

This is true. The reason that he was back at Safety last year wasn't because he wasn't good at Spur, it was because safety was the hole. Now that we feel like we can put some capable bodies at safety, you move Holloman back to the position that he's best suited for. As long as they can hold up in the back, it is the best scenario for the team.

While there are admittedly potential weaknesses to point out on this team, Holloman isn't one of them. We need a playmaker at Spur & he's the best one for the job. I could see where safety is a concern, but I'd be more worried about depth back there than what moving Holloman does to the position.

And with the depth we've developed to replace Ingram, along with getting Auguste back (and the freshmen coming along) to put out there for Gilmore, the biggest loss looks like Jeffery. And I think that even that is an unknown due to the reduction in his numbers last year. I don't know how the rest of the WR corps will do w/o all the attention paid to Alshon, and that could make a large impact. But there's a reason that we're picked top 10 by so many publications. Given the way Shaw picked up at the end of the year and the depth to cover our losses, though, I don't see justification in picking us below UT or UF. I get UGA (not b/c we should lose head-to-head, but due to their schedule) picked above us. But it is absurd to drop us below the other two.

Danielson has been wrong about us before. The week of the Georgia game last year, he said that Carolina didn't have the mental toughness to win that game.

Olson, Chad Oman, Steven Stabler, Charles B. Wessler Screenwriter: Peter Farrelly, Bennett Yellin, Bobby Farrelly Film Description: Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels play the title roles (though viewers may find themselves debating which is which) in this genially low-brow comedy. Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey) and Harry Dunne (Jeff Daniels) are two intellectually-challenged best friends who share an apartment so messy that gangsters aren't sure how to trash the place; the guys also have a certain problem (not difficult to understand) holding on to jobs. Lloyd is working as a limo driver in Rhode Island when he picks up a beautiful and wealthy woman named Mary Swanson (Lauren Holly) who is being taken to the airport. Lloyd immediately falls head over heels in love with Mary, and when she leaves a briefcase at the airport, he's determined to return it in hopes of impressing her. Lloyd isn't able to get aboard Mary's flight (though not for lack of trying). Harry has a van decorated to look like a dog (to promote his failing dog-grooming business), and the pair hop in the Poochmobile to find Mary in Aspen. What Lloyd and Harry don't know is that the briefcase is full of money, which Mary deliberately left at the airport as a ransom payment to save the life of her kidnapped husband. Incidentally, Lloyd's chipped front tooth happens to be real; while Jim Carrey had the injured tooth capped many years ago, he thought a broken smile would suit Lloyd's character and had the cap removed for the duration of filming. Who cares?

    I am in that camp.

I do respect Gary and his general knowledge for the game, etc but feel (like all commentators), they yack a lot AND they get it wrong in large ways more often than not.

OU will beat WV by at least four touchdowns.
Clemmy will beat up WV in Orange.
Ala will have no problem with Utah.
EJ Manual is the Heisman fave!
VT can't lose at home against Clemmy, says Gameday guys and The Sandman, who entered and then left early.

    Blah blah blah.

I am not a fan of folks who make large, broad predictions and, in many cases, overpredict.

In fact, "Prediction Addiction" infuriates me across many levels, sports, economy and markets, etc. Perhaps they simply like to be heard, not taking seriously what they are truly saying.

Who's going to win the East?
Where will the Dow and Russell 2000 finish this month?
Will oil prices go up or down? What about gold?
Will Nkemdiche commit to the orange team?
Who will win the British Open?
Will Bismark be replaced by Fargo as the state capital in North Dakota?

My answer: Beats the s**t out of me.

What would I like? Carolina wins the East, the Dow and Russy moderately higher, oil levels out and gold's hat begins to be handed out. I really do not care where this flake Nkemdiche ends up. I will root for Graeme, Luis and Retief. Fargo vs. Bismark? Don't care. (It probably snowed there last night--and I made that one up anyway.)

There. I wouldn't take too much stock in what folks say. It's only entertainment to me.

If I took all of what the experts said word for word as absolute gospel, I'd be sitting on the roof of my house shooting crows with a bazooka and tossing grenades at squirrels.

The variables change so much by the minute. There.

Keep talking, Gary. I'll either laugh out loud or give you an ocassional thumbs up.

    Go Gamecocks!

The only position unit I am really worried about is WR. We have some proven slot guys but need some guys to step up on the outside. That being said, all our RB are good receivers. Then you have Anderson at TE. Plus, I believe Adams at TE will be a receiving threat right away. Cunningham is never gonna be a huge threat but he has shown the ability to consistently be a dump off guy who will make the catch. Point being, while it may not look like a traditional Spurrier passing game, there will be plenty of places for Shaw to go with the ball this year. It all hinges on his decision making and getting the ball to the right spot on each play. I believe he can do that. We won't burn it up through the air because we will be a running team but I believe we can be very efficient through the air. As long as Connor manages the down and distance this year our offense will be good to very good.

  • I do not know if Florida and Tennessee have passed us, but I have no problem with anyone saying that they will be improved and a threat to beat us this year.

I think Tennessee has the biggest opportunity for improvement in the country this year. A supposed first round QB, two All SEC type WRs, a veteran and talented OL. They should be able to score points.

Defensively, they may not be the bees knees, but they have talent.

Florida may well have an elite defense. Their offense has nowhere to go but up. Their QB play cannot really get worse and they will have some every down running backs to play a conservative style to help their defense.

Winning both of those games will require a good effort from us as it did last year when the two teams were going through one of their worst seasons ever.

Our schedule to me is drastically more difficult this year than last. Our offense is going to have to make strides if we hope to have the same kind of year.

EVER??? Are you nuts??? Are you familiar with our football history??? I could see some disappointment, but that's a ridiculous statement. Nine wins would be very good, but I also expect more and we'll need some serious breaks with a VERY tough schedule, some unproven players to step up and stay healthy (Lattimore been hurt first two years). Your being a little dramatic.
